The SEC Championship Game Should Be Abolished When the Playoffs Kick in.

Assume we had the 4 team playoff in 2011 and 2012.
In 2011, LSU would have been hosed by being forced to play an extra game while Bama got in without winning the conference.
LSU would have needed 15 wins to win the BCSNC. That's basically an NFL season! While Bama could have won it with only 13 wins.
In 2012, Bama would have gotten the raw deal by being forced to play Florida in the first round of the playoffs despite UF not even winning their division. Bama would have also needed to play 15 games for a championship. That's too much and not very fair the the SEC champions.
I could also see the SECCG preventing an SEC team from making it to the playoffs all together.
Say a three loss Georgia team beats a one loss Bama in the SECCG. Bama would need to be ranked in the top four with two losses. It's likely Bama and Georgia would get left out of the BCS playoff picture.
Point is, the SECCG will likely do more harm than good when the playoff format is installed. I like the game and prestige but it might not be desired with the changes coming.

No.

I can agree with your points, but the SEC will never get rid of it - it makes them too much money.

There'$ no way thi$ happen$.

The "fairness" argument again?

I completely agree there needs to be a stipulation that both teams will be included regardless of outcome. We know that will never happen so what can be done........other than doing away with the game?

I know it won't be because of the money but from a pure national competition standpoint, it's a disadvantage.

The first thing the SEC HAS to do is move to 9-conference games. The scheduling discrepancies need to stop.

What if you're in the 5/6 range and a win over a #1 ranked team could vault you into the playoffs? Knife cuts both ways.

It's actually a good point and will be an issue every year for the team that makes it.
eta. The way you keep it is you make a stipulation that you have to win your division to be in the playoff.

It should be required for all of conferences to have a championship game, not matter how many teams. Thats the only way to make it "fair"

But then we don't get the championship monies.

Then you're basically playing a playoff to get into the playoffs, which sucks if you've already completed your season ranked #1 in the country only to get ousted before the playoffs begin by an outside shot team.

The only conference that has an "advantage" is the big12, as the bigEast will be left out of the current format in all likely hood.
The only team is ND who should be left out of the current format but won't.
The Pac12, ACC, and B1G conferences will be on equal footing as the SEC as they will have a conference championship game.
The question will be if the big12 will expand back to 12 teams.

I agree completly. Somebody will be punished because of this game. It shouldn't take Slive long to figure this out once this 4 team "playoff" starts. The first time an SEC team get's left out because of this game it will be changed. Need to expand the number of confrence games and just have a West and East Champion and if they meet in the playoff, so be it.

so in your scenario will there even be an SEC champion anymore? You just wanna go by regular season? That would heavily favor those with weaker schedules that particular year.

Just have division champions and possible co-SEC champions if need be. There is already the schedule disadvantage in the divisions.

I'd much rather an 8-team playoff.
