Lindys article.

There were several unanswered questions after Alabama’s lackluster performance in Baton Rouge a week ago.

*When LSU dominated the match-up in Tiger Stadium, was that just a fluke game for the Tide?

*Would Alabama’s real defense, the one supposedly better than a year ago, show up after the wake-up call in Death Valley?

*After that final drive against LSU, would quarterback AJ McCarron become the SEC’s realistic Heisman Trophy candidate?

*And, would Bama still prove itself to be the most legitimate contender for the national championship?

Those answers were loud and clear in Bryant-Denny Stadium against Texas A&M in the 29-24 loss on Saturday night.

No, no, no … and no.

For the second consecutive game, Alabama was outplayed from start to finish, but this time the team on the other side of the field didn’t have a coach who succeeded in giving the game away.

This time the other team had the best freshman quarterback to play college football in a long, long time and he succeeded in taking the game away.

Texas A&M provided a dose of reality to Alabama, scoring three times early before the Tide could find the end zone. Bama was the third consecutive SEC opponent to fall behind the Aggies by at least 20-0.

In the past two games, Alabama’s defense has given up 853 yards in total offense, and allowed LSU and Texas A&M to convert a combined 21 third down attempts. The Tigers and Aggies have completed 73 percent of their passes for 549 yards and have averaged 36 minutes in time of possession, 12 minutes per game more than Alabama.

Based on how Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M and Georgia have played in their last two games, the Tide may be the third best team in their own division, and could go into the SEC Championship Game against Georgia as the underdog.

I doubt they'll be the underdog in the SECCG.

The reality is we're playing for the SEC championship and still have a chance at the crystal. Auburn gets to watch the bowl games from the friendly confines of Lee County

Meh. McCarron is injured, knee & shoulder. Bama should run the ball more. It ain't over til it's over. LSU lost to Arky on Nov. 23rd in 2007 & still made the title game with 2 losses.

Today's forecast for the SECRant calls for a 100% chance of a shite storm with possible slobbering and whining and a mix of hissy fits developing later on.

Reality check: Auburn is about to win 3 games this year and be the first team in college football history to fire the head coach only 2 years after your controversial, scandal tainted national championship.

Reality check #2: Alabama is one win away from its NCAA leading 33rd 10 win season and 3 straight wins from its league leading 23rd SEC title and 60 wins in the last 5 years.

This part is really telling. Bama has been outplayed by the two good teams they have played this year.

I mean does anyone think bama would beat A&M if they played again this week? I don't. Bama says they figured out the A&M offense, but they didn't. 3 of the 4 last A&M possessions A&M moved right down the field into scoring position with every drive being greater than 50 yards and 24 total plays on the 3 drives. A&M really could have won by a lot more than they did.

A 'reality check' isn't so bad when you're still alive for a conference and national title. It could be worse I suppose.

#4 in the nation
49 yds separates them from leading the nation in total defense.. despite the letdown the last two games.
Top 25 scoring offense in the nation
1st in scoring defense in the nation, still
Heading to ATL for the SEC Championship
Still alive for a NC bid at the moment

Thanks for making me stop and really think about where Bama is at right now.

There's a positive to this - as an Auburn fan you get to save some money this holiday season.

I am an LSU fan, but even I can't agree with that. We moved the ball in the first half against bama, but made mistakes with the fake fg and the long fg that we missed.

I think we owned them in the second, outside of the last two minutes.

Reality Check? Lost 1 game and now Bama needs a reality check. How many programs out there would like to have the same reality as Bama? As long as Saban is there and recruiting, 1-2 or no loss seasons is reality.
