If the war was about slavery, why didn't lincoln abolish slavery in the emancipation proclamation? He specifically maintained slavery within this proclamation. Seems like the argument the war was to end slavery holds absolutely no water.

yup slavery had zero to do with this, they should have just let the states decide when to end slavery, it wasn't like the constitution said all men were created equal. So therefore the states should have had the chance to decide when to end the business practice of slavery.

I assume you are being sarcastic. If so, why didn't Lincoln end the practice of slavery? He specifically maintained it within the emancipation proclamation. How can it be said Lincoln ended slavery when the documents clearly show he didn't?

Im not talking about Lincoln, but stupid arse revisionist historians on this board clearly upset that the south lost the war. I lump people who said it wasnt about slavery with 9/11 truthers. Same venereal disease of the brains in my opinion.
States rights is bullshite, states rights amounts to states deciding when to stop slavery because the economics of the south depended on slavery.

oh we know. It really doesnt matter today, but people who try to deny historical significance is what pisses us off.
Same with Ole Miss, its up to the student athlete to decide if they want to let the past bother them. Clearly its not helping them and their shite of a football team.

You don't know much about history and you are part of the over-sensitive over-PC world that is falling down around us.

It's amazing to me that you can be so proud of yourself for saying something so cowardly.

Why stop there?

Why not lump people with well-researched opinions that disagree with your own into categories of holocaust-deniers or child-molesters?

Look. Was slavery a major issue of the time? Yes. But, is it beyond ridiculous to think that it was the reason Lincoln comitted treason and sent armies to conquer the South? Absolutely.

P.S. Google "Building 7".

and you criticize me for saying stupid shite. Lincoln committed treason by sending troops to states that had decided to created another country basically.

thats pretty stupid.

1850 before lincoln was elected Slavery was the main political issue, correct Lincoln wasnt for abolishment during the election, but he was against its expansion. That was the main issue.
I dont have to google shite, I have done my research and read both sides of the argument.

So much fail.

In fact, the Constitution states that black people are not equal.

Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.

Second off, the Declaration of Independence was written by a slave-holder at a time when slaves were in every colony north AND South..

Actually, the original draft of the Declaration had even more sweeping language, which was edited and toned down due to concerns about slavery.

As a black conservative, I too sneer at African Americans voting for obama just because he is black. Most without a thought to his politics or positions regarding anything. When 92% of a race almost literally block votes for a particular candidate, something is seriously wrong, in my opinion. And I'd feel the same way if the shoe were on the other foot. In my people voting for Obama or any other democratic candidate because "he's black," or "that's what we do," we have thrown away the invaluable right of suffrage and given up our free will for groupthink. That is extremely dangerous.

Wholeheartedly agree. I would also say the same of labor unions and the Conservative Christian Right. If you give away your voting power, you will receive nothing but pandering and maybe a few scraps here and there in return.
