You're a moron. A DO is just as qualified as an MD. It is true that many DO's couldn't get into MD. It's not "cult medicine", it's just a different approach to healthcare and in most cases, a DO's approach is just the same as an MD.

You left out the part where the only people who go to osteopathic schools are people who can't get into the over 100 medical schools in the country. Honest question. Would you want one performing life threatening surgery on you or would you want an MD?
I will say this, I would rather learn osteopathic medicine than any type of western medicine as a general practice.
I personally cannot stand the emphasis western medicine has on treating symptons rather than the actual problem. Of course I understand why, and know it is all tied into the multi-dollar pharm industry where the more meds that get prescribed and the less underlying problems that get fixed, the more the medical community makes as a whole.
The whole western medicine system pisses me off and I would most definitely be an osteopathic doctor and live a better healthier life for it than a typical western doctor.

Not sure if this is just some medical schools, but I know the one I'm going to places a lot of emphasis on treating the patient as a whole and not just the symptoms

In the United States, there are two types of physicians that practice medicine. Osteopathic physicians hold the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (D.O.),[1] while most physicians hold the more common Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.). Both types of physicians are medical doctors.
According to the Cecil Textbook of Medicine, 22 ed., other than teaching manual medicine, medical training for an osteopathic degree (DO) is virtually indistinguishable from that which leads to the MD degree. DOs complete conventional residencies in hospitals and training programs, are licensed in all states, and have rights and responsibilities, such as military service, that are identical to MD qualified physicians and surgeons.[2]

Bammers do not want anyone taking away from the only program that they can really brag about to educated people. That is why they keep close grips on the UA BOT power balance, it prevents UAB from breaking away and claiming the banner.
I'm sure UAB med school is really worried about the new holistic med school in Auburn.
Yea if anyone sounds butthurt it is you. You were the first person to bring up the rivalry. The law school and business school are both highly ranked and are in Tuscaloosa.

While it is true that DO are medical doctors, it is not because of the osteopathic/holistic element of their training.
Monticello's comments about admission standards are also entirely true.

He is naturally proud that his school is expanding its education and research facilities. However, he is trying to turn your dislike of DO's into an Alabama/Auburn thing. He simply hasn't read your responses nor does he understand your position - Someone needs to tell his dumbass its has nothing to do with football.
I applaud Auburn for for the effort and think its great for the state.

I see this and I see construction jobs, supply orders, jobs. Good for Auburn. Don't understand the bashing. You can choose who your doc is, well at least for another 4 months anyway.

Since DO's are just as good as MD's, I'm sure Auburn football will have one of its DO graduates performing all the team surgeries once the school is well established.

This thread... I thought this was a sports board? Why would Alabama football fans care that Auburn is opening a med school?

You're just the coolest poster ever being able to bash a profession and a teaching institution. When did someone attending a learning institution become a target for ridicule?
You are a horses arse.

Maybe because most of us live in Alabama.
