Precisely. This is why tradition is so important. Alabama can lure a guy away from the nfl due to it. Tradition comes from outworking your opponents through the years, not dumb luck
I will even give it to you that hard work and tradition is a part of it. I'm sure Nick Saban would not have left the NFL to come back to Virginia or something like that. Alabama is and for the forseeable future will be one of those "major" programs. There is no denying that.
All I'm saying is that other programs, LSU included, have just as much to offer and would be just as attractive from a resource standpoint as Alabama. Just because you won the NC in 1961 that doesn't mean the next great coach will just to come to Alabama. It's about timing and personalities as much as anything. You can't say with a straight face that Alabama hasn't been very fortunate along the way.

You seem to be stuck on that game still, or still reeling from that January game. Neither of those individual games have anything to do with the bigger picture in this thread.

I think Notre Dame will be back because of the tradition that has intensified the following, money, etc. Their drought isn't any longer than those we saw Ohio State (2002), Texas (2005), and USC (2004) end just recently. Most of those program had been 30 or more years between titles.
Yeah but those programs for the most part haven't sunk quite as low as ND has although all 3 had their downturns. Time will tell.

Don't get me wrong, getting saban was big but none of that made a big diff back when dubose, franchoine, price and shula were hired.
Hell, fran was like the 4th choice.

No, I was just agreeing about the "if my aunt had a dick" arguments. They're retarded no matter how big "the picture" is.

Everyone calm the frick down. This is a flame thread. It's the ONLY one on the front page started by a Bama fan.
There are THREE flame threads on the front page that have been started by LSU fans. And one Auburn flame directed at Bama.
But everyone takes those in stride. It's only the Bama-created threads that gets everyone's panties in a wad.

There's a Help board thread whining about the Bama fap threads overrunning the SECr. I don't see a single one. (except maybe this one)

Let's just face it, Alabama is the best there is. The football players wake up every morning in Bryant and piss excellence.

What folks don't understand, or don't want to, is teams like Alabama, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Texas, etc cared more about college football from the get go. If they didn't, they wouldn't have devoted more time, money, resources, etc to having great programs since the start. Nowadays with all the big money in college football every johnny come lately program in America wants a piece of the big dollar pie. I have much more respect for the programs who have always put an emphasis on college football even when the big dollars weren't there to motivate success.

Bama Football - Bear - Saban > LSU Football
quote:
Ok, explain to me how Bama's great history is due to anything other than things like an Alabama scout showing up in Fordice, Arkansas at precisely the right time in history to kidnap a young Bear Bryant to play at Alabama as anything other than luck? Do you think he would have heard "Mama call" had he played and coached at say Arkansas?
Or what about the extreme good fortune of having a coach like Nick Saban fall into your lap at precisely the right time anything other than luck?
Even if those things hadn't happened then obviously Bama would still be a good program. But if you don't get lucky like that again in the future you're not "assured" of being successful. No program is. It's earned, not given.
Even if we play the devil's advocate and agree with you about Bryant, there was nothing "lucky" about Saban "falling into our lap." Alabama simply went to the best coach available and offered him an unheard of amount of money...combined with more power than virtually any other coach. When the time comes when Alabama has to do that again, we will. And while success in the future is definitely not a certainty, because of Alabama's willingness to do what it did in getting Saban, it definitely tilts the odds in Alabama's favor.

LSU All-time Record isn't 62.68%
734-390-47 total games 1171 0.647
The offical LSU count is:
733-390-47 total games 1170 0.6465
LSU doesn't count the Lake Charles High School win.
Which Michigan, USC, even Alabama counts it's 2+ wins vs high schools.
Oh and Michigan even counts a lose as a win vs Oberlin in 1892. The head ref called the game due to time and Michigan ran 2 plays after Oberlin left the field to score a TD and pat.

We make our own luck! DWI
And we make our own misfortune and admit it.Unlike some other SEC school in this state.

You've been very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time and have had a lot of great coaches. LSU has not been as fortunate although we've had a few. You can say that about every top program in the country.
What they hell is going on?
Why hasn't anyone said the following: "the bear is dead! Bear was a drunk womanizing cheater! Bear wore a CHECKERED hat!"
This usually gets said in the first few posts. Is it a sign of decency?
