Do you feel your team "deserves" success more than other teams?

This morning I was discussing Alabama's recent dominance with a friend who is a Bama fan. At one point he said, and I'm paraphrasing, "we deserve it, though. We went through some dark times."
I found this interesting. Is this the feeling of a lot of Alabama fans? Do you feel like your team deserves success more because the program went through a period of mediocrity? In general, do we try to justify some moral reason why our particular team deserves success over other teams?
I know in 2010, I felt like we (Auburn fans) "deserved" the national championship because of how many times we were passed over (1983, 1993*, and 2004).

Not sure if you're aware of this but pretty much every fan in the nation thinks his team deserves to win it all for some reason. It's just the nature of sports fans.

You're an Auburn fan and you just asked if a lot of Alabama fans have an attitude of entitlement. You should know better than most that yes they do.

Man, that's a big question. Deserve in the sense of entitlement? most passionate and highest priority of fanbase? Have to think about that one. Regarding Tide's woes, it was the programs 4th major in less than 20 years I believe. This may be perceived as a flame but it's not: stop doing that.

We are experiencing our success because we do the things that are rewarded with success. We went out and got the right coach. That coach went out and got the right players. Those players made the sacrifice and committed themselves to be a part of a system that is far greater than any individual. So its not that we deserve it just because, we deserve it because we have worked for it.

I won't sugar coat it. As Bama fans we have an elitest attitude. And with our history we can back up that attitude. Every fanbase feels their team deserves it. I guess as a Bama fan we feel we deserve to be back on top after the shitastic past decade because Bama belongs at the top. I dunno how to describe it really

I feel all the shite the we have endured as an MSU fans that we deserve at least one fricking year to win a NC. I would be happy...just one year

So I guess Auburn fans assume they would have won the SEC championship and their bowl game in 1993? Those are pretty big assumptions. And btw the little asterisk you put beside 1993 needs a definition if you are going to use it.

I don't know about the Bama football program, but I feel entitled to be a dick to Tennessee fans up here, with all the shite they gave me from 1995-2001.

No fanbase deserves to vicariously taste the success of their respective teams than any other fanbase, that's just absurd. Hell, all I do is watch the games on tv. What do I deserve at all? It's entertainment.

I feel like we deserved to win the NC after the tornado, the AD death, etc. It was a tough year for Alabama residents, not only those who are Alabama fans.
