Discussions with Garrick McGee have ended. Representatives told us that Jeff Long has made the decision that having a full process after the season was better for all parties involved....adding that asking any current head coach to take this position at this time wasn't the right thing to do.

Arkansas will stay in house, appointing one of their current assistants as interim head coach for this season.

This would be the smart move, if no good option is found.

ouch - but probably the right thing to do at this point. I agree with above - 8-4 or 9-3.

Good and bad. By waiting, it pretty much means an entire new staff, but they will probably come away with a better coach, by knowing going into the season they are looking for a coach rather than after the season. They will likely have first dibs on coaches

Good call. More respect for Long.

Looks like Arky and Tenn will be in the same market after the 2012 season.
it's the right move, though. Arky will get a better coach if they wait and won't have to settle for Malzahn/McGee/etc. Not to mention, if they're really wanting one of those two, they get a year to see how they do at their new job.

And this is what they posted yesterday
Let's see what they can come up with tomorrow to drive traffic to their site.

Arkansas: Last Wednesday we told you that two informed sources told us that Garrick McGee would be the new head coach at Arkansas. Today, we received further confirmation of those reports. Both sources we heard from today tell us to look for McGee to be announced no later than Monday (reminder both teams have their Spring games this Saturday).

I know Arkansas can coach up a 5.7, but can they coach up a 5.5? Cause that's all they will be getting while the real recruits wait a whole year to see who will coach Arkansas.

The right move...I don't think it will affect wins/losses. Hire a new coach with new staff/offense or keep what you have in place with an interim. No difference.
This will affect recruiting. However, it's best to sacrifice one year of recruiting to make sure you get the right hire and not a rush job.

This is the best news I have heard if I was an Arky fan. Let the season be an audition.

8-4. Arky isn't nearly as bad off as tOSU was last year.

By far the smartest thing to do.
There are two routes to go here:
Panic mode with short term thinking only ie Bama post Mike Price and hire Mike Shula and suffer mediocrity for 4 years before hiring a Great coach
OR
Calm, cool, and think long-term ie Ohio State and promote within and wait until after the season when the pool of candidates is high and make a good long-term hire.
Arkansas will make a very good hire after the 2012 season and be the best for it long-term by making this choice.

That really sucks for Tyler Wilson. I hope Petrino never works at a major school again. All the bs aside, this dude fricked over a lot of people.

Probably smart not to rush into a mediocre hire. I had them going 9-3 next season even with Petrino (losses to Alabama, LSU, and South Carolina). I think they'll lose a couple more now (A&M, Auburn, and maybe another one here or there).
Taking a quick look at their schedule:
Jacksonville State - Win
UL-Monroe - Win
Alabama - Loss
Rutgers - Win
@ Texas A&M - Loss
@ Auburn - Loss
Kentucky - Win
Ole Miss - Win
Tulsa - Win
@ South Carolina - Loss
@ Mississippi State - Win
LSU - Loss
7-5...maybe 8-4. That back to back road stretch to Auburn, Texas A&M and South Carolina, Mississippi State will be a bitch. They could split both series and go 8-4.
