TR leads team with 3 and Maze is second with 1 TD catch???

Not really sure where I was going with this one...CSB, I guess. I just found it suprising since the media would have us believe UA has a "very balanced offense"

ETA: I see AJM has 16 tds, so I guess that means he spreads it around a bit. Don't know how many he's run in though.

Doesn't bell have a TD or two? I know their TE has one since he scored in the ark game.

Why does balance have to include the ways in which Alabama has scored? 31 TDs on the ground versus 16 through the air, and four non-offensive TDs, isn't necessarily an indication of balance. Alabama is balanced because of playcalling. That's what keeps defenses in check. 473 rushing attempts to 323 passing attempts. That's pretty good balance with a young starting QB.

Maybe for the starters... I know White scored two against Vandy alone and that Bell has multiple scores.

Smelley has 4 TD catches. Nine different receivers have over 10 catches, but Maze has 56.

Alabama's offensive production has relied disproportionately on Trent Richardson and Marquis Maze. They account for about 70% of Bama's all-purpose yards.

All they do is win. Even if they lose, they win.

TR doesn't lead, and five players have more than one receiving TD.

Corndog research at its best.

NAME REC YDS AVG LONG TD

Trent Richardson 27 327 12.1 61 (TD) 3
Brad Smelley 27 317 11.7 35 (TD) 4

DeAndrew White 14 151 10.8 39 (TD) 2
Brandon Gibson 14 140 10.0 23 1

The TD's are spread around or using another term balanced amount the receivers.

The true meaning is that Bama has 2638 Rushing yard and 2563 passing yards if this helps in your understanding of what the media is trying to say.

I'm sure its already been pointed out, but those stats are bullshite.

Williams has had at least three TDs...that I can recall immediately.

EDIT: Hmmmm...someone else says two, and that may be right. I know he had one against Penn State and one against Arky, but I thought he had at least one more against Auburn too...maybe that was just Smelley's day.

It's the McElwain offense. He's horrible calling passing plays in the red zone. His offense relies a lot on the same predictable short passes under ten yards. When the field is condensed in the red zone, opponents only have to prepare for guarding against the same five or six pass patterns which makes their offense very limited. That's why Alabama has struggled in the red zone under his watch. It's also why I believe the true value of an offensive coordinator is gauged by stats like 3rd down conversion percentage and TD% in the red zone.
