Alabama dominated LSU Nov. 5th...

I've heard a few people claim that Alabama dominated LSU on Nov. 5th and that Alabama crushed LSU statistically. I've also heard the somewhat softer-toned "Alabama outplayed LSU and was/is the better team." Where do people come up with this stuff?
BoxScore
LSU penetrated Alabama's red zone three times in the game. Alabama penetrated LSU's red zone a grand total of ONE time. Alabama's deepest penetration against LSU was the 17 yard line...In other words, Alabama did not get any closer than 17 yards to scoring a TD on LSU....THE WHOLE GAME! LSU ran 13 plays in Alabama's red zone. Alabama ran a grand TOTAL of 4 plays in LSU's red zone. LSU reached Alabama's 2 yard line in one drive, Alabama's 13 yard line in another drive, and Alabama's 8 yard line in yet another drive. Again, Alabama only had ONE drive that entered LSU's red zone, and the drive didn't get past the 17. Alabama couldn't even get into the red zone when GIVEN the ball at the 25 in overtime.
So what about Alabama winning the "stat battle" ? Nevermind that Alabama didn't even win the four most important stats in football: rushing yards, turnovers, penalty yards, and scoreboard. LSU rushed for 148 yards, and Alabama and its Heisman trophy contender only rushed for 96 yards on their home turf. Alabama was penalized for more yardage than LSU (73-56), and turned the ball over twice (which equaled LSU's 2 turnovers, and that doesn't even include Alabama's blocked FG). So in regards to the "stats battle," Alabama didn't even win the three most important categories in football: rushing yards, turnovers, and penalties.
Furthermore, Alabama's missed FGs were from 44, 50, 49, 52. I'll be nice and throw out the 44, but is it any surprise Bama missed the other 3? Those weren't exactly chip shots. Very few college kickers outside of Baton Rouge can hit consistently at 49+.
I know, I know...CSB,... Just thought I'd throw this out there since there appears to be at least a few people out there that seem to have - for whatever reason - conveniently "blocked out" the actual facts of Nov 5th.

While you like to look at the box score jump over to the drive chart you may see some interesting numbers. This by no means states that Bama dominated it dose lead one to believe that Bama did move the ball well but stalled when they got close to the red zone.

I think above leads some to believe that Alabama cost itself the ball game. In reality the above is unforced errors. As far as your "3" most important stats, many look at total offense, time of possesion and first downs, as a important stat. Some even like passing yards but those dont fall into LSU's favor so I can see how they are discredited by you. I was one of those on here who has said "BAMA outplayed LSU" (K. Herbstriet also has said it) and I still believe it. Where's your page long list of games and scores, or have you conceded that BAMA is coming and this time LSU wont get to start 2 of their three field goal drives from the BAMA 25.

And came away with field goals.
Bama crossed the 50 5 times. LSU 3.
Bama had longer drives.
Bama had more total yardage.
Bama had more first downs.
Bama had more 3rd down conversions.
Bama won the time of possession.
Bama had one long drive for a FG.
LSU had one long drive for a FG.
Both teams had 2 INTs.
Both teams converted 3 points out of one INT.
Bama couldn't convert a FG attempt in OT. LSU did. End of game. End of story.

Foster only comes in on FG attempts over 40 yards.
He was 77.8 percent last year. Hit from 41, 44, 49, and 45.
He was 22.2 percent this year. Part of that was trying the 50, 49 and 52 yarders.
Had Saban not tried to throw in OT I don't have any doubt either Foster or Shelley would have caused another OT, that is if LSU would have been forced to kick a FG like they were.

Those people are clueless.
Both teams left points on the field. It was pretty even in two phases (offense, defense) and not even close in the third phase (special teams).

Let's take a look at the bottom line. LSU made a pile of mistakes; Both of Lee's interceptions which were totally atypical of his play this season; Randle dropping a sure TD pass that he normally snags; Shepard inexplicably falling down when all he has to do is waltz into the endzone for a score; Ford losing track of his feet and stepping out of bounds on the way to an easy touchdown; three blown pass coverages for big 'Bama plays; again atypical of this defense; and I'm sure there were others. Now 'Bama's mistakes; trying three field goals that were out of range in a field position type of game; the flea-flicker pass call when they were already in FG range in a tight game. Seems to me LSU made more atypical type of mistakes than 'Bama, yet they still won the game. Saban is well aware that he can't count on the Tiger's making the same sort of mistakes again just as Miles can be fairly certain the long-range FG tries and ill-advised flea flicker can't be counted on a second time. Neither team dominated the other by any stretch but one team made more big plays and that team won the game.

did you know that the 46 yd fg was the longest fg the entire season? they dont know how close they came from only scoring just 3 points

Bama players said they are the better team. Incredible locker room material for LSU to get ready to deliver their to Bama.
Better in that they were gassed and out of breath for the last 8 minutes of the game? Hope they get in shape for January--they'll need it.

I'v heard people on TV say it too and they look like idiots. Even if Alabama did dominate guess what?.......they lost. BUT, it does show how close the game was and LSU fans should realize either team could have won it. Most on here do appreciate how close and hard fought it was but some think LSU beat the shite out of Alabama. Either way, LSU is a great team and in great shape for the rest of this year and the future.
