If you just want to explore downtown Savannah then no car is necessary. Our rental sat parked for 3 days except for our trip to Wormsloe. Its a great town and I am likely in the minority but I prefer the feel of it over Charleston. We rented an airbnb right near Forsythe Park and explored on foot for a few days. Go have a drink at Hotel Bardo.
