It was far and away Cam's worst game since the 2nd week of the year against Mississippi State... two turnovers, overthrown passes, struggling b/c of his back, etc.... Obviously the threat of Cam really helped Dyer and the running game... but I'm curious if people think we could've beaten the #1 team in the country with another QB.

Yes. But without Cam, Auburn doesn't even make the SEC Championship game.

It's more about the future than a hypothetical.

Easily false, AU would've been 8-4 at best without Cam. If Cam went down on the first play against Oregon, no way they won that game. Hell...they needed the full 60 minutes to beat them WITH cam.

Very few backups can come in during big games with "little" experience and keep there team in the hunt for a win...it takes a special QB...not many like those around...nope

Oregon was one of the few teams that got some clean shots in on Cam. Seemed like after the first few series, where Rowe hit him in the back a couple time, he was tentative.

Doubt Trotter would have been able to get it done though

He didn't hurt his back until the 4th quarter, so that part of the question is moot. Pretty sure it was the drive prior to the GW drive.

I doubt they would have won without him. Despite his bad play, he still made several key runs that kept drives alive. I doubt Trotter could have made those runs.

Let's see here...first of all, Cam was far and away the best player in the country. He was likely one of, if not THE best player in the SEC from this decade.

With that said, Auburn beat MSU by 3, SC by 1 possession, needed OT to beat Clemson, beat UK by 3 late in the game, LSU by 1 possession, were trailing UGA in the 4th quarter, and was down by 24 to alabama. You really don't think things would've been a hell of a lot different with a backup QB instead of Newton? AU would be lucky to win half of those games, and it wouldnt' have surprised me to see them lose most of them.

I agreed with everything you said about needing Cam to win the game...but i ahve really enjoyed the whole "without Cam" inference this season. Nobody can prove what would have happened with or without any player. It just makes me chuckle.
