I didn't read the wall of junk the OP put up. Just had to put in that the majority of the students are huge col reb fans. And I for one will only see him as our mascot and do will my children.I've talked to athletes in my classes they don't even care one but.

Wow. Defeated by the daunting task of reading 500 words.... I'd go back to your Call of Duty game where the readin' ain't that much as thet thar wall o' wurds

Ask most people outside Mississippi what the flagship institution of this state is, and they will say "Ole Miss" without hesitation.

Dude I live in Phoenix so I think I can speak to out of state perceptions and you get everything from those that think there is only a Miss State to those that think there is only an Ole Miss to those who are aware of both.
OK I will say the perception is that Ole Miss has more history as far as sports, but I have not gotten a sense that people feel that academically Ole Miss is any better. Really for the most part, folks think they are probably both just run of the mill big state schools in the south... Good Ag schools, vet schools, adequate business and law schools, decent engineering but weak in high tech like electronics or bio-tech.
And I am not saying LSU is not seen that way as well...but come on man...the notion that Ole Miss is this shining beacon of higher education..that dwarves Mississippi state...well, sometimes you Ole Miss grads get a little delusional about that.

Seems simple to me. If there were no Col. Reb, he couldn't have been cryin.
And if Col. Reb's not cryin' then Coach O didnt have to rip his shirt off.
And I dont want to have to explain this to Coach O.

1) The phrase flagship campus or flagship university is often used with reference to state university systems in the United States, which often comprise numerous campuses in widely-separated locations. In this context, flagship means the original campus from which the system grew. Ole Miss and State are two different systems so they can both be considered flagships...as opposed to say MSU in Meridian.

All of the universities in Mississippi are run by the Institute of Higher learning. Ole Miss is the first school in the system, therefore the flagship.

It's also important to note that Ole Miss was the ONLY university in Mississippi until 1959.

State, like Auburn, has gone through 3 or 4 name changes. The University of Mississippi has always been the University of Mississippi.

We're not saying that we're some sort of Ivy League school and they're a junior college. We're just saying that, with a larger endowment, more prominently recognized "name" or "brand", longer history, and better liberal arts educational opportunities, Ole Miss is the flagship.

You live in Arizona, right? So is U of A or ASU the flagship? You know the answer already.

You sold your soul to political correctness.

The boys that died at Gettysburg don't recognize who the hell you are.

You're pathetic and if LSU ever gets rid of the 'Fighting Tigers' name. I'll say frick them and find a new team.

It'll hurt like hell, but it won't be the same.

Either be something and don't apologize for it or be a pussy and change your name to something meaningless.

One day animal rights activists will make you rename it once again and then you can be the fighting vaginas. That is until NOW or some other group complains.

You'll never be rid of those that complain. You just became officially nothing.

That is so damn sad I don't know what to say.

Is there a more irrelevant University (in terms of a football program's recent success compared to their historical success) than Ole Miss? Who fricking cares about Ole Miss? I've always found amount of debate about Ole Miss to be just plain silly. In terms of their fans, can we say Notre Dame Syndrome? Who the frick do you think you guys are? At least they lose a BCS bowl game every 5 years...

Ole Miss fans: your history means jack shite. Nobody outside the state of Mississippi gives a rat's arse. Black Bear, Boss Hogg, or Grove linen cloth douchebag.....your mascot isn't going to magically change anything.

You apparently care enough about Ole Miss to write a fairly long post about how much you don't care about us. It was pretty off topic as well.
