"Nobody's pointing a finger at Mississippi State for doing anything wrong," Zeit said. "And Kenny has said, 'I had no discussion with Auburn regarding Cam Newton or anybody affiliated with him.' He said, 'I don't know if Auburn has or has not done anything wrong.' He's not pointing a finger at them."
Asked if that meant Rogers is implicating Cecil Newton, Zeit replied, "He's pointing a finger direct squarely at the father."

Still can't believe Auburn just acted like nothing was wrong. Who cares if they can't prove anything, your players dad was just accused of soliciting money for letter of intent from another school.
Why take your glove off and slap the ncaa in the face? Schools are supposed to take allegations extremely serious and play it safe. Ignoring it was just weird.

I still have a really hard time believing that State was the only school Cecil solicited. Why would he try one time and then give up? I guess you could make the argument that the reaction of the State coaches spooked him and made him think his son would lose the chance to play anywhere if he kept going for a pay day, but I just don't see him giving up on that kind of money that easily.

Did you read the other USA today article about the almost 1.5 million reasons why Chizik would want to start him due to his bonuses he could receive thru his contract??? yeah, he had a LOT to game from him playing....don't find it so wierd he ignored it

In all my years of watching college football, I have never seen a fan-base bury its head in the sand as bad as Auburn. It is hilarious.

I think they do take it seriously. When the NCAA says "we suggest you sit him.", I think/hope Auburn will. But, and the argument is almost cliche at this point, Auburn is "damned if they do, damned if they don't"... What's the difference between 2-10 and 0-12? And that's considering we are good enough to win without him... I like pumping sunshine just as much as any fan, but there's a probability we'd get arse-raped by bama without cam

That is very true, and every school will start to follow Auburn's lead here... unless the NCAA decides to forcefully discourage that kind of thinking.

Why the hell solicit money from the one school your son wants to go, without doing it to the others? Logic tells you it would be the complete opposite.

I agree, and that's my reasoning for them playing him if this turns out to be true. He had already played in all 10 games up to that point. If he is ineligible then it doesn't matter what they do for the last few games. Might as well play him anyway. If he is ineligible the season goes right down the shitter. A couple more games wouldn't make a difference

quote:If AU has not done anything wrong in Cam's recruitment, then the school won't be punished just because Cam is ineligible other than the forfeited games. . But since AU played a player that is known to be ineligible, AU is subject to more penalties than merely forfeiting the games. You opened yourself up for punishment even if you did not pay Cam.

So, does the SEC's and NCAA's inability to take any action in this situation mean that player's representatives (family members) can solicit money at will from colleges as long as the player "doesn't know"????

Except for the part where the NCAA might ream you even more for all this shite being public and you still choose to ignore it and make a mockery of the entire idea of amatuer sports and student athletes.
I guess the whole idea though is you might as well win it. USC's title and Bush's trophy got taken away, but I can't unthink what a great team that was and the arse whipping they applied to Oklahoma. It just may cost you a bit more in the long run.

see my other thread, it's been moved to Thursday at 4. New evidence surfaced about 2 hours before the presser so they bumped it back to Thursday as the situation is very fluid.

It's my understanding (from hearing it on the radio this morning) that those bonuses also have a stipulation that requires the team to not have any NCAA penalties...

Jay Jacobs said after the meeting Thursday the NCAA gave them no indication or reason for sitting Cam.
*That is not to say nothing illegal did happen.

Did you ever think that maybe Cecil was looking for money only from MSU because he was aware that Dan Mullen was ok with it.. i.e Cam was aware of benefits that Florida players were getting while at Florida..
So this time "It wasn't going to be free" per the words of Cecil..
Therefore, he is thinking if he is going to play at lowly MSU, then the only way it is happening is if he gets paid.. and even then I am not sure it is worth it..
Do you think that MSU is 11 - 0 right now with Cam.. I am sure his father figured it would be completely on Cam's shoulders (not great protection and no great skill players) and he would not be able to have the same success.. Therefore, he decided he didn't want his son "to be a rented mule".
