Has "8 major poll championships." Tying Notre Dame.
Making it official that the only people who think Bama has 13 are their fans. But hey, 8 is a lot, just not 13.

Every time Bama claims 13 they undermine respect for their program. They are communicating it's better to lie about 13 then to be honest about 8. I see no evidence of them having the integrity to correct this anytime soon. They would gain more respect by being honest about their accomplishments.

8 since 1961 and 5 before that. ESPN is not an authority on national championships. There is certainly one very debatable championship 1941.
But the NCAA recognizes Alabama with 17.
But I see no reason the University of Alabama should not recognize the teams that were independently awarded national championships after going undefeated and then boarding a train an traveling across the country to Pasadena and winning the Rose Bowl.

Again Yes when the school claims a NC when the team finished with 3 losses, 20th in Nation, and didn't even win the SEC.

So just to be clear you don't consider College Football a sport until after 1936? Because that is when the AP decided to pick National Champions?
The AP poll gave the 1966 National Championship to Notre Dame, that's all the counter proof I need to prove that you and ESPN are full of shite. They didn't become any more legitimate in 1936, 1945, or 1998. Just look at 2003 for your proof. Either support the system and our 13 national championships or push for a playoff.

Alabama finished with 2 losses in 1941. If Alabama were just claiming any national championships it could possibly claim we would also claim 1945 (undefeated, but we defer to Army because of the war) and 1966 an undefeated untied two time defending national champion that six different sources claimed as the national champion, however because the major poll of the day did not declare Alabama champions Alabama does not claim that Title.
But just know that When ESPN says Alabama has 8 they are counting since 1961 which is a national title every six years. And that does not include the previously mentioned 1966 teams.
