Pairing the all-time SEC baseball coaches with their all-time football coaches counterparts. The coaches listed had to compete through the SEC schedules, not the SWC or the Big 12.

Skip Bertman - Saban/Bryant
- This one is obvious

Ron Polk - Pat Dye
-Both coaches had their greatest success in the 80s with great teams and revolutionized their schools' national perception. Both won the SEC a lot. Neither could get over the final hump

Ray Tanner - Kirby Smart
-Both sustained great programs for a decade, and both won back-to-back titles. Get the idea that Kirby will retire early too.

Mike Bianco - Vince Dooley
- Both coached forever at the same program and have only 1 title late in their careers to show for it. A long history of good teams, but only one great team.

Tony Vitello - Steve Spurrier
- Both built programs from nothing and had very quick success. Both won only 1 title despite multiple great teams. Both built their programs by being the villain, personality-wise. Both left their schools early to get a shot in the pros.

Jay Johnson - Urban Meyer
-Both won two titles in their first 4 years. Both took over programs that were in a good but not great spot, but still had a big brand name, and were not far removed from success. Both coaches came from the Pac-12 area to join the SEC.

Dave Van Horn - Mark Richt
- Both coaches joined the SEC in the early 2000s. Both coaches have won the SEC and won tons of games. Neither coach could get over the hump and win a natty despite great players and support.

Kevin O Sullivan - Les Miles
-Both coaches took over for decent situations and won far more than they lost. Both have angered their fan bases at different points and have had questionable morals. Both have 1 natty despite playing for a few.

Paul Manieri - Phillip Fulmer
-Both have one title despite years of good teams. Both coaches flamed out pretty badly at the end. Both coaches never really recovered from bad losses. Manieri was never the same post-2017, and Fulmer was broken after 2001.

Tim Corbin - Johnny Vaught
-Both took over programs with zero prior success and have had tons of success. Both have won the SEC a bunch and have a couple of Natties to show for it. Neither ever had a terrible team at the end of their careers, but both have had a steady decline.

Corbs was the hardest to find a pair

NGL, it took me a minute to understand what you were doing. Good job.

Is there a football analog to our baseball coach calling in wagers on games involving Bama baseball?

I wonder who the baseball version of Frank Broyles would be? An excellent coach who was an extremely successful (if flawed) AD.

Bianco more like Gene Chizik

Respected coach that won a natty in spite of mediocre coaching on the backs of an elite player (Cam/Elko) with a solid core group around them.

Not even being funny but, Chizik or Coach O would be more like Lemonis. Flash of greatness but over all sucked.

Bianco has to many wins, and regionals to be compared to a layover coach.

Pat Dye

In Dye’s defense, that 1983 team should have won the national championship.

They moved up one spot (4th to 3rd) after beating:
#5 Florida (when they moved up to #3)
#7 Maryland
#4 Georgia
#19 Alabama
#8 Michigan

I don’t think Dye can be blamed for not making it over the hump that year.

You could also throw in that his decline began with the advent of NIL much like Vaught’s began with the end of single platoon football.

I'd say Vitello and Cignetti are identical, but Cig not an SEC HC.

That's actually fair, but Lemonis doesn't belong on a list of great coaches like this thread implies.
