Since 1972.

Dale Brown .595
John Brady .580
Trent Johnson .511
Johnny Jones .556
Will Wade .673
Matt McMahon .462

Any more questions about why LSU would rehire Wade?

Man what could have been with that Covid canceled team. They were ready for a run that year.

So your most successful MBB coach since 1972 (by winning %) had 1 25+ win season & a single Sweet 16 appearance in 5 years.

Always laugh at this term, in part because I don't think they actually exist (who could defend a 17-55 record?).

But the irony is, McMahon is actually a great guy and solid coach who came to LSU at the worst possible time. He really should have left after seeing the fundraising apparatus wanted WW back.

Oh boy. Another post on LSU coaching moves. Just what I came here for.

Currently there are 9 posts on the front page of tRant about Pear coming back to LSU. 5 times OP was a LSU fan, 4 times it's a 'Bama fan.

If LSU wants Wade back, then I truly hope they get him. But for the most part... I'm basically over it.

You could argue it's Dale Brown despite his lower overall winning %. His 3-year peak from 78-81 was a 45-9 SEC record with a Final 4, Elite 8, and Sweet 16 appearance.

Be the change you want to see, then. Start a thread about why Bert got away from those massive O-Lines at Arkansas. I thought he was onto something after that 2015 beatdown, but then it all went to shite.

He did less with more than any coach I can think of. That final 4 team should won it all and he had Shaq.

Why did you get rid of him in the first place?

I would be happy just to make the tournament at this point.

Also , has Tennessee ever made it to the final 4?

I love facts.

Here are some you will love!

Winning percentage of top SEC coaches.

Golden@Florida: .715
Miller career: .703
Oats@Alabama: .701
Calipari@Arkansas: .694
Byington@Vandy: .691
Barnes@Tennessee: .681
Beard career: .676
Wade@LSU: .673

Based on winning percentage Will Wade would be the 8th best coach in the SEC.

He looks just as mid if you look at post season results.

Will Wade only has 5 NCAA tournament wins. List of coaches who have had more success.

Calipari: 61 wins in 33 seaons/1.8
Barnes: 35 wins in 39 seasons/.9
Miller: 25 wins in 21 seasons/1.2
Oats: 15 wins in 10 seasons/1.5
Beard: 12 wins in 11 seasons/1.1
Golden: 7 wins in 7 seasons/1.0
Wade: 5 wins in 11 seasons/.5

The fact is Will Wade will be the 8th best coach in the SEC, fighting it out with Mike White, Mark Pope, and Chris Jans to hold onto that spot. Luckily Bruce Pearl retired or the Pear would be one slot lower.

It is strange to watch LSU fans losing their minds for the Pear like they are. It is like Beatlemania on the bayou - except it isn’t the Beatles they are screaming for it is Nickelback.. It seems even more bizarre since he just got knocked out of the first four round by a SEC school. There is a long list of better coaches out there. But LSU seems determined to spend all of Todd Graves money on mid tier coaches.

Why has there not been an announcement yet?

Here is another fact for you. Will Wade regrets taking the LSU job. He wishes he had stayed at VCU. That is straight from tPear.

quote:

This Monday, Wade will face his former team, VCU (2-1), in what promises to be his first real test of the season. After a coaching journey that included a noteworthy stint with the Rams, the matchup brings a sense of nostalgia for the 42-year-old, whose earlier tenure with VCU was marked by amazing results.

In an interview with Adam Epstein of 910 The Fan on Friday, Wade remembered his previous stint with VCU. At that time, he had just led Chattanooga to a 20-win season and would have big shoes to fill after the previous coach, Shaka Smart, left the Rams following the 2015 tournament. Wade guided VCU to a 51-20 record and made the NCAA Tournament in both seasons. The Rams reached the second round in 2016 and fought in the first round the following year.

The Nashville, Tennessee, native, who left VCU after the 2017 tournament to coach LSU, where he stayed for five seasons until 2022, admitted he regretted the move from Richmond to Baton Rouge and wished he had thought about it for a longer time.

“I didn’t fully appreciate VCU when I was there as a head coach. As an assistant I did appreciate everything,” Wade said. “When I was a head coach I was young, just ‘move, move, move, move, move.’ Looking back, I should have never left – I’m reflective enough to admit that. I should’ve stayed awhile longer. We had something really (good) going.”
