For the sake of discussion: Who would you replace Pearl Jr. with now?

Go at it.

I would fire Cohen. Hire a new AD. Let me decide.

Wouldn't.
Not convinced anyone else would have done appreciably better. And while not happy with SP the revolving door with insufficient funding is not worth risking such a move this year.
ie: We became a football school again this year...and SP is the best option without spending appreciably more.

Exactly. Auburn football is back baby! Auburn basketball back to the SEC basement and all is back well in the world again.
BB for Heisman!

Hodgson from USF. Hopefully he's still there next season.

Dumb thread. How can anyone have any foundation of what type of coach Steven can be after this season.
After next season sure. It would be cutting off your nose to spite your face to fire anyone. Talking about Bruce handcuffing the university. Steven was also handcuffed with a roster and staff.
Do I want staff changes? Not really but that should be the head coach’s decision. I do want roster changes.

Bobby Hurley is my all time favorite college basketball player. That said he wasn’t anything to write home about at Arizona State.
If I were AD my call 1,2, and 3 are to Will Wade. Call 4 is to Bill Armstrong at
McNeese. He took them to 28-5 this year. He was a long time assistant at Ole Miss, and was essentially Wades #2 at LSU, but more importantly (to me) he went to my high school and was one grade above me in the 90s.

Arizona St probably has worse boosters than us and Arizona is a way more traditional basketball power than our in state rival. I think he will crush it at a place with a decent amount of support, Arizona State was not willing to pump money into basketball.

Corch, we cannot all be geniuses like you with the perfect post. My intention was to elicit opinions, including names of potential replacements available now, or as some have suggested, including you, that you would not replace Pearl Jr. Guys like you discourage sensible posts when there is a real debate among many AU basketball fans whether Pearl Jr. should have been given anything other than an interim position, much less a 5-year contract. Convince me that anyone else in the SEC would have hired him as their basketball coach without any previous head coaching experience. I'm listening.

Where's the sensibility in that?
Where's the money coming from?
And what sensible coach would risk it?
Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with hypotheticals. But sensible is certainly in the eye of the beholder. And when did politely discussing the other side of the issue around here become insensible? Proceed I don't care but not expecting blow back doesn't seem very sensible to me. And I enjoy reading the sometimes sensible suggestions... even when I disagree.

Because we saw him coach. An entire season. He sucks

So you have a problem with the word sensible. Let's leave that word out and why don't you respond to whether you would offer the name of a replacement or stay pat.

Awestruck, I see above you are staying pat. Missed that. Sorry.

Will be a totally different crop of coaches available when/if we make a change.
I still have yet to understand anyone saying want Steven fired because they watched him coach.
What did he do wrong like situational? Should he have played more players? If so, who? If he should have played fewer, how? Our offense was still mostly efficient stat wise on the season. We struggled late in games. From my viewpoint seemed we didn’t run offense or burned to much clock and got into scramble situations or hero ball.
On defense I have zero doubt that the coaches worked on the strengths and weaknesses. Just not a good defensive team. I think SWA and Freeman can be good defenders but need to get better. Overton is an ok defender but lets some of the quicker guards turn the corner on him to much but he probably is what he is. The rest on the defense is effort. From people I respect all say the same team inconsistent effort.
I’ll pass judgment after we have a different roster. This team and no point in the season seemed like a “team”. Remember it took overtime to beat Bethune Cookman in Neville to open the season.

People wanting Pearl fired after year 1 only want it because Bruce got his son hired (this is the fairness crowd, some weirdos) and they hate this. So they have been rooting for him to fail all season. Number 2 - they have never played any sports at a level about rec. Number 3 - they didn’t like Bruce either because he was openly pro Israel. They fit into one of those 3 categories.
