What happened to the SEC?

From 2006-2013, the SEC had a team in the NCG and had both of the teams in 2011. The SEC won 7 straight national championships at one point.
When the 4 team playoffs started in 2014, the SEC had a team in the final four from 2014-2023. In 2017 and 2021, the SEC had 2 teams in the final 4 and both years were an all SEC NCG. The SEC won 6 national championships during that run.
The SEC has not had a team in the NGC for 3 straight years. The SEC has only had 3 wins in the playoffs the last two years. Two of those wins were over other SEC teams and one of those wins was over a Group of 5 team.
What happened to the mighty and dominant SEC?

We now have a system where teams earn it on the field. Just remember, under old systems, Georgia is playing in the semifinals. In the old 2 team BCS, Georgia is playing in the championship. Let's see whether the SEC can win it in a system where you have to earn it on the field.

Those championship games weren’t played?

Nick Saban retired. That’s what happened.

Fear not. LSU is here to rescue you hillbillies, rednecks, and inbreds from the depths of your SEC despair.

Big 10 expanded nationally.
SEC expanded regionally.
National conference >>>> $$$
Regional conference <<<< $$$

"Those championship games weren’t played?"
Yes, those games were played but under a system where SEC fans automatically get appointed to the semifinal round based on a media narrative.
What part of this concept do you not get - Georgia would have been in the semifinals under the old system this year. Let's see how the SEC does under a more fair playoff system. So far, not so great.

I gotta defend the SEC on this one point. The South is part of the SEC. So logically you’d like to have the members be from that part of the country. The B1G didn’t really have a regional foundation in its name so it wasn’t tethered to just the Midwest. The SEC schools take a lot more pride in their football teams. I don’t think that’s even debatable. Most elite players still come from FLA, Louisiana, Georgia, Texas etc. In the north only the state of Ohio has even a decent amount of blue chip recruits but even that is nowhere near what it used to be. The portal can be reined in a bit. But NIL is what initiated southern kids going all over the country and vice versa

Sorry - SEC "teams", not SEC "fans."
Just remember, Georgia was one of the two or four at worst best teams this year according to SEC fans. That obviously wasn't the case. Under the old system, Georgia is in the semifinals.

Poor leadership at the top of the conference and it trickles down from there.
Kirby is the only coach in this conference worth a frick and even he’s lost a big component of what made him so dominant previously.

I think Mario is a good coach but you see the knuckleheads from Miami even to this day. Undisciplined and ill timed penalties. Cignetti would go nuclear on a player for some of that stuff. He is cut from the same cloth as Saban. Mario is too, but it’s hard to take “Miami” out of all his players

Coaching has hurt our top programs lately
LSU, Auburn, Florida, Tenn(Josh is decent but not great), Oklahoma
It has been pretty bad.

Actually, I love that NIL is making more teams competitive with the big boys, but I hate how basically anything goes and there is almost zero loyalty me no matter what. But watching Indiana win it all was fun.

At least it is a level playing field now.
