How about a 16- or 24-team playoff?

From ESPN:

“There is strong support for a 16-team College Football Playoff format to begin as soon as 2026 if Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti and SEC commissioner Greg Sankey can reach a specific compromise, multiple sources with knowledge of the discussions have told ESPN in the days leading up to one of the most significant meetings for the sport's postseason.

“There's still a stalemate, though, between the two powerbrokers, meaning that even with a majority in favor of the change, the playoff could remain at 12 next season.”

The stalemate is that the Big 10 is pushing to go to 24 pretty quickly after that and Sankey is balking at committing to that right now.

How about we go back to four and give the lower tier feeder schools from the G6 their own championship?

Trim the P4 conference fat to around 60 teams.

16 or 24.... just stupid.

Just keep it at 12, drop the automatic seats, drop conference championships and take the highest ranked 12 teams.

Sankey is probably just holding out for something he wants. It is going to 24 teams eventually. It was always headed there. They have a model from FCS that has been doing 24 teams since 2013. This way the little guys can get their bids and the top 8 teams don't have to face any of them in the 1st round with their bye.

Ugh. Greed is NOT good. Stop. Just stop.

Four is probably the right number. Four teams.

The more teams that have an opportunity to play for a championship makes the championship more deserved.

Sorry not sorry finebaum, herbstreet, fowler, etc. Your opinions are no longer powerful and football is better.

48 seems good to me.

You probably would rather go back to a panel of “unbiased insiders” picking the best 8 teams for the NCAA basketball tourney.

The most deserved champions amirite?

Just have Duke, Arizona, etc this year. Don’t bother with all those ugly teams.

96 seems right, but probably needed to make it 99.

All the P4 are IN each year.
Then the rest can be best of G5.

Coaches should get large bonuses for winning a playoff game.

I, for one, want no part of this being involved in my CFP.

Talk about making the regular season irrelevant.

You'll have 8-4 teams who went 4-4 in conference play explaining why they deserve a shot at the national championship

Now that it’s semi-pro ball, 16 is probably feasible, but people that think this level of parity existed pre-portal/NIL, are either being purposefully obtuse or are actually retarded.

I always said 16 is a good number

Or leave it at 12 and have two play in games to go to 14

I don’t think anyone would be mad with more football and a Notre Dame v Vandy and Texas v BYU for the final two in.

Too many games for those guys.

Also, they need to make it mandatory that you must play and cannot enter your name in the portal until you lose or win it all.

Yes ! Thats it !

Play your little regular "season". Start the regular season on Labor Day and finish it on Christmas .Give out your Dollar General trophy for Conference Pride Participation winners. Then let the fun begin with all the teams playing in a tournament.Tourney begins New Years Day and ends on Independence Day !

Thats a great idea StansberryRules ! Good job !

Not necessarily. You are just more likely to find the team that gets hot at the right time. Doesn’t mean they were best or most deserving.
