If conference supremacy is so important to TV deals and playoff rankings, and bowl games seemingly carry such weight in the conference supremacy argument, the SEC is going to have to find a way to incentivize players actually playing and coaches actually giving a damn.

As it stands right now, the SEC is getting sucked into a vortex of postseason suckage and bad PR which will in turn affect recruiting and playoff perception going forward.

We can talk all we want how much bowl games don’t matter and give excuses as to why we have such horrible performance as a conference, but it’s going to have an effect. You can’t have the eyes of the nation continuously watch the Big-10 own you and not give a shite. They obviously do. They are looking at 3 in a row and there’s a VERY good chance it’s 2 Big-10 teams in the title game.

Show up or get ready to lose out on recruits, money and prestige. Bowl games matter.

It has absolutely no impact. Just fodder for talking heads.

Welcome to the new College Football. Tradition, conference superiority, recruiting footprint within your region, and even 5 years to play 4 means jack shite. They should just change it to AAA Football.

You don’t understand the effect of marketing and branding. It will absolutely have an effect. Perception becomes reality.

The talking heads are trying to drive up ratings because people watch when they think an SEC team will lose.

Your team lost to Houston. We're not talking Texans or Oilers, but Cougars.

Kindly, stfu.

Kirby warned everyone about the extra losses and wear and tear.

The opt outs are going to increase thanks to Sankey's suckery of ESPN.

When Lane and others end up at 9-3 and don't make the playoffs, don't cry that you were not warned.

Did I absolve my team of responsibility for this?

We fired our coach, had a dozen players opt out and still made it a game against Houston.

We obviously didn’t give a shite because the players that opted out didn’t. Houston did. Until we find a way to fix the incentives the SEC will continue to spiral downward.

Perception becomes reality.

They do this every time the SEC loses a few bowl games. If it was the other way around, nobody would care.

The reality is the SEC has 5 teams in the playoffs, which means SEC teams are often playing opponents that are ranked much higher within their own conferences.

Missouri finished 8th in the SEC. Meanwhile Virginia finished 2nd in the ACC.

LSU finished 10th in the SEC, they played the 4th best Big12 team.

Tennessee 9th best in the SEC, about the same for Illinois.

And they were close games even after the opt outs.

And that's been the 3 bowl games thus far that the SEC has lost. the 8th, 9th and 10th best SEC teams have lost.

But I mean it's pretty shitty that players aren't finishing the year out. I'd like to see it change, it use to be important just from a development point of view and now they are like nah, I don't want to get better, I'll just spend my cash.

Its not a bowl game problem.

Its a college football problem.

Ole Miss is navigating a playoff run without its head coach, and with multiple assistants who are already working primarily for LSU.

Tulane and JMU both also lost their head coaches before the playoff.

A&M went into the playoffs with both coordinators having a foot out the door before it was even time to start prepping for the playoffs.

Oregon is in the same boat with both coordinators already having accepted other jobs.

Ohio State will be working an OC who has already accepted another job.

How can a playoff for the current season be legitimate when coaching staffs and rosters are both already transitioning to the next season before the playoff starts?

College football is a broken sport.

This is hilarious coming from a LSU fan sucks Bama has to share the same conference with a team like LSU that just lost to the University of Dallas at San Antonio in a bowl game. What an embarrassment. Historically, even Auburn is better than yall.

I don't understand this opting out shite. It's a game with your team. Why not finish?

To be frank, these boys need to be taken down a notch.

You want to have that conversation with their coaches too?

That's even worse. I guess I'm just old fashioned... ya know, finish what you start, don't quit, stand with your teammates, etc.

Right there with you amigo. Im just bitter about the state of the sport overall.

I used to live and breath for college football. Now I watch it all as basically a bunch of exhibition games. The whole sport is broken right now. And I dont know how it can be fixed. Just sucks.
