reminds me of Bama securing Dennis Franchione. As a reminder, it didn’t end well for Bama.

Sorry Awburn didn't win that sweepstakes before they hired Hugh.

Good luck with Alex Ghoulesh!

People forget how the Dennis Franchione move actually turned out.

He left Alabama in 2002 right after winning the SEC West, took the Texas A&M job for more money and fewer NCAA issues, and it ended up being the peak of his career.

At A&M from 2003 to 2007, he went 32–28 overall, 19–21 in conference, won nothing of note, lost big rivalry games, and had teams that regularly collapsed late in the season. Fans turned on him fast, boosters bailed, and the whole thing fell apart when his paid insider newsletter got exposed.

He was forced out after 2007 and never coached at a major program again. Alabama rebuilt and eventually became a machine. A&M moved on. Franchione faded.

Today, he is fully retired. His last job was Texas State, where he coached until 2015. He recently put out a book about his career and has said his cancer is in remission. No coaching, no media role, just retirement.

In hindsight, leaving Alabama looked smart for about five minutes. Turned out to be the biggest mistake of his career.

The lateral move hires never worked out for A&M - both Fran and Jimbo. LSU hiring up worked out - Saban, Miles - but my guess would be this lateral move hire of Lane will not go well.

ANOTHER fan that believes Lane should have stayed put.

If I'm an AU fan.... I'm keeping my trap shut because our program has been worse than LSU.

Ole Miss is about on par with Michigan state and OK ST. So how is one a lateral move and the others are a step up?

lateral? Jimbo? lol he downgraded

Fla State may not be very good right now, but as a program they are much more elite than A&M. Jimbo saw $$$ and went running to A&M.
