It will be interesting to see how schools handle top QBs. You can't afford to pay for them early on when they all transfer:

Julian was at Alabama for like a week and the coach retired.

How many of these QBs deserved the 5 star rating? Sayin and Dante Moore have been good. Arch gets a lot of crap but he’s probably the third best on this list after Moore and Sayin.

ETA: I had to lookup who Malachi Nelson even was. Went to USC as a freshman and lost the job to Caleb Williams, understandable, then went to Boise State and couldn’t win that job. Played this past year at UTEP and started a few games and was benched there.

Looks like 1 was worth 5 stars and that's debatable after the playoffs ...

Continuing on:

2022 so far only one of the four (Allar, Klubnik, Weigman, and Simpson) has entered the portal.

A lot of money for some really big busts.

Moore, Manning and Sayin panned out. The rest got paid and didn’t do much.

Seriously.

And the way Kiffin took that kid at OM and got an incredible season out of him, makes you wonder if it’s all about the system they get to operate within.

Didn’t realize how long ago that was until I saw the year.

I used to think recruiting services were getting better, but seeing this thread makes me realize it is still very hit or miss.

Arch likely had more $ keeping him "loyal" than a couple of those guys combined.

It will always be hit or miss. Talent is easy to see but that is only half of being great. The mental part of the game and work ethic are a huge part that is hard to judge. These are just kids and it’s their first time going off from home.

At least he’s smart enough to respect his team and not make a fool of himself

Kiehl Frazier broke me from ever believing the hype on recruiting rankings back in the day.

They had me convinced he was Cam Newton 2.0 and was even better for Gus' offense since Gus knew of him for years in Arkansas. Then Byron Cowart and Calvin Ashley (Who?...Exactly) just reinforced it several years later.

Yep, the days where saban/'Bama could pay players and stock 5*s three deep is over.

Now everyone can pay players. That is why saban quit coaching... the field was leveled. He knew he was snake oil.

Anyways, now 5* talent requires mega bucks.. especially at Q-Back. . Most are not worth it. Better a couple 4* or a 4* and two 3*. See which one actually pans out as not "Bama Gold.
