Guess he didn’t want to be challenged

Sounds like one of those “Are you man enough?” tacks.

I’ve never agreed with that approach on leadership. It overwhelmingly drives defensiveness and is counterproductive. It’s stupid to do this.

There are far better ways to get people to tap into where this gambit is trying to go.

Because you can't be bothered to post the link

quote:

Lagway's initial meeting with the new Florida staff did not go well, per multiple sources. New Florida head coach Jon Sumrall questioned who Lagway is as a football player. The new staff opted to challenge the high-priced quarterback, pushing him on his competitiveness and work ethic.

"Sumrall questioned what he's about," one source said.

Others around Florida describe Lagway as a very hard worker, someone who can be seen running around campus in the early hours most days. Lagway wasn't looking for a guarantee of a starting role. He wanted to hear he'd be developed and what that plan looked like. Lagway felt like that wasn't presented by the new Florida brass.

"He didn't care about the money," a second source said. "He didn't care about them bringing someone else in. He just wanted to hear you have the ability and we want to coach it out of you."

All I'm reading is he was interviewed and told it was open season and he wasn't promised a damn thing. CNB made these kids soft and it shows. Slingblade mentality is cancer and Sumrall isn't having any of it.

If DJ thinks that he has a better shot a program that will gas him up from day 1 go ahead, look where it got him.

He’s pretty terrible so good luck to whoever tries to fix that project. Might pay off but doubt it.

And I’m reading that Lagway wasn’t looking to be promised anything. It’s in what you posted.

The article said Lagway was looking to hear the coach’s plan for his development, didn’t get any answers and decided to bounce.

UF fans know from experience how to spot bad head coaches and bad quarterbacks. There's a reason that none of us are too mad about DJ entering the portal.

Another sensible move. Lagway could turn out to be the best QB of all time, but he's more likely to be a dud. He will demand to start. He's also entrenched and talented enough (at times) to scare off big talents from transferring in. On top of that, before this season started the rumor was that Lagway would need shoulder surgery after the season. If true, that is another offseason with limited work. And keep in mind it is likely his last offseason in college. NFL keeps drafting these bad QBs with raw talent like Richardson.

I believe that he's just too much of a gamble for a first-year coach to count on. Sure, it could pay off. He may be the 2026 Heisman. But, it is smarter to not take the bet.

He expected the same treatment after 28/23 touchdowns to interception ratio.

Bold move cotton.

So the player wanted the coach to interview for a job with him? OK...

I can see both sides.

I don't fault Lagway on his reaction. Dude has tools and was highly recruited, and has had moments. My impression is he was flailing around trying to figure it out by himself out there, and wanted to hear how the new system would help. And what he heard wasn't "we have a plan to develop qbs", it was "are you ready to work".

My understanding is the dude works, he wasn't being developed
