Is he good?.. yes..
Is he great?.. no. Or I’m not sure. It’s tough to tell.
I think that he has benefited from an overall weak conference. I’m always happy to see a good kid do well, but imagine if we’d be saying the same thing about a slew of the SEC QB’s that played his schedule.
Half of the teams they played had a losing record and 3 additional teams were FCS or terrible group of 5 teams.
Against Oregon the best defense played in the regular season he threw for 200 yards with 1 pick and 1 TD.
He’s behind 6 SEC QB’s in passing yards barely in top 24.
He does less in passing TD’s with 33 but half 26 of his TD’s were against teams with losing records. Against Penn state he had 1, Oregon 1, Ohio state 1,
He had zero TD’s against Old Dominion and didn’t throw for 200 yards passing. They won 27-14.
10 defenses in the SEC would eat him alive.
Very scary schedule they played
Old Dominion
Kennesaw State
Indiana State
Illinois
Iowa
Oregon
Michigan State
UCLA
Maryland
Pedo State
Wisconsin
Purdue

shite there’s three maybe four quality opponents in there. I’ll include OSU in there as well. He’s good but I think Pavia or the running back from ND Jeremiah Love are better candidates

Bottom line - what if the roles were reversed:
Does Vandy still go 10-2 if Mendoza is their quarterback? Not likely
Does Indiana still go 12-0 with Pavia? Very possible.

Pavia would have won the trophy if he was there. That schedule. I mean.. his number are already gawdy. They would be epic against the likes of Purdue

Which three or 4? I’ll give you one in Oregon.

They just beat OSU. Thats another one. Iowa was a solid team 8-4. Illinois was average. My point is they don’t compare to an SEC schedule but they also didn’t have easy arse ND’s schedule either

Mendoza won that award a month ago with that miraculous comeback win vs MD. Then completing the conf champ game vs tOSU iced it.

He did good but his defense is excellent and doesn’t get enough credit
The Indiana quarterback from last year Kurtis Rourke had comparable stats to Mendoza this year
Overall it’s a weak year for the Heisman in my opinion

Yeah I know it. Cignetti seem to have guys on his staff to build up QB’s to a higher level than they were before transferring over. That’s why I don’t see his OC or DC being able to stay too much longer. They’ll be getting calls soon

Mendoza was already pretty polished passer when he transferred in from Cal.
He was the only good player on that team, and as a result went under the radar. But he has plenty of tape throwing lasers on the west coast.
So it was a no brainer.

Just watch the kid play, if you can’t see the arm talent and improvisation then you don’t know football. He should 100% go #1 overall unless that system requires a true dual threat qb
Also Ohio State only allowed 130 passing yards per game and 6 TD’s all year
lol @ bringing up the schedule when he beat undefeated #3 in Eugene and undefeated #1 on a neutral field
