Does anyone know why there is only 1 bye week next season?

Why not start the season on August 29th instead of September 5th and have two bye weeks and an extra week of college football?

Because 9 games

Someone in another thread mentioned that it has to do with what actual day the college football season starts with for the entire nation. So last year everyone got two off dates. This year everyone only gets one.

If there’s anything teams should all agree on it’s having 2 bye weeks.
If you keep adding playoff games then you need 2 bye weeks to help with health.

I read this and contemplated this for a good 45 seconds, and then concluded that what the frick does the 9 game schedule have to do with anything.

The actual yearly calendar is different.

Yeah,
What does 9 games have to do with only one bye?

This is what I'm thinking, also.
Maybe they have a hard on for starting the season on Labor Day weekend. But in reality who the frick really cares if Week 1 is on Labor Day weekend?

My assumption is that the normal week zero the last few years might not exist?
Dunno how that exactly translates to 1 bye week instead of 2, but it vaguely makes sense I guess

It's not a bye week. It's an open date.

They should have moved the first weekend up

There's only 13 Saturdays next year between Labor Day weekend Sat. and Thanksgiving weekend Sat.
This year there were 14 Saturdays...
Not sure why the SEC sets up schedules this way but they do.

Start 7 days earlier and everybody gets the 2 open dates they really need.
Otherwise replace the P4 OOC with another rent a win so more players can be rested.
SEC is going to be screwed by going to 9 conference games. Will be lucky to get more than 3 teams in the playoff.

It just depends on the day Labor Day falls on.

A majority of FBS teams received two bye weeks during the 2024 college football season, an odd scheduling kink highlighted by the fact that seven teams in the AP Top 25 had Week 3 off. And it isn't because of the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff.
Teams had two byes this year due to an NCAA bylaw that prohibits FBS programs from playing their first game of the season prior to the Thursday before Labor Day, which fell on Aug. 29 this year. That marked the official start of Week 1, with the first full Saturday of college football falling on Aug. 31.
Between Aug. 31 and Nov. 30 -- the final Saturday in November -- there were 14 Saturdays to play 12 regular season games. That means a majority of FBS teams were provided an extra week off. Some teams, like Florida State, even had three bye weeks.
There are a few exceptions to the Labor Day rule. FCS schools that play a non-conference opponent in a nationally televised game can also open their season in what's become known as "Week 0."

Rosters moved from 85 to 105. I am sure Georgia will hold 4*s from 85 to 105. You'll be alright.

No. It's a complete and utter mystery.
