OOC Canceling Spreads

Granted, I know Georgia cancelling their games against Louisville isn't a huge loss. But, it's part of the broader trend now that SEC's going to a 9-game schedule and SOS has proven to be a moot point. Which is a bummer, because Labor Day should mean something on the CFB calendar.
September has essentially become college's version of preseason

Everyone knew this was coming. Going to a 9 game SEC schedule, it makes less than zero logical sense to play any more tougher games than you're rquired to. We already play a P4 in tech, so it'd be in our best interest to play tomato cans the other 2 games we have a choice for.

I hope we don't can the home and home with Ohio State

With all the talk of this and an expanded playoff, has anyone mentioned actually reducing the number of games we play each year?
Our football team is like the walking wounded already, I can't imagine adding more SEC games and potentially more playoff games.

I hope every school refuses to play Notre Dame until they join a conference

I may be wrong, but I thought this was cancelled already.
Maybe not. I think FSU and Clemson are still scheduled, too.

why?
If we win it doesn't count for any more than a win against a scrub would count.
Ask Texas what it means if you lose.
It just makes absolutely zero logical rational sense.
FTR, I would prefer a world with only 12-14 teams per conference, we'd play 8 conference games, and we would preserve kickass home and home games like this one. But with the way the sport is at present it just doens't work.

UGA has played at least a 9 game SEC schedule for the past 9 years. 3 of those years we wound up playing 10 (‘17, ‘20 - same as everybody- and ‘21). Bama has done it a bunch as well (they played 11 in ‘20 along with FL).

Still showing when I look.
But either the OSU series in 2030/2031 or the Clemson series in 2029/2030 will be cancelled. Currently 2030 has UGA with 4 OOC games of GT, Clemson, OSU and NC A&T.
I can't imagine UGA playing all 12 games in 2030 against P5 teams by dropping A&T.

We're gonna play the nerds OOC and that leaves 2 gravy games, 1 G5 GSU, UAB etc and 1 FCS to finish the season...

Georgia canceling another OOC as Kirby is concerned with the 9 game conference schedule considering how banged up they were going into the SEC championship game. Not enough 5 star guys on the bench to put in? Guess Big 10 teams must not hit hard enough to not having an issue with playing OOC games.

With GT every year, UGA would have 10 P4 opponents a year before scheduling any other OOC games.
Who in the Big 10 is playing more than 10 P4 teams a season?
UGA will end up playing 11 every so often. But we're not going to play 12. Neither is any Big 10 team. I don't think you know what you're talking about.
9 conference games means that most of the time each team will have ONE OOC game against a major (P5/P4/whatever you call it) opponent. Occasionally they'll have 0. Sometimes theyll go as high as 2. But they'll never have 3.
UGA had several years with 3 of their 4 OOC opponents scheduled against major opponents. They aren't going to be playing all 12 games against major opponents... so some of those games will not happen.
But let's not pretend that Big 10 teams are playing more than 10 games against P4 teams. Heck, their champion this year didn't play a single major opponent OOC. Old Dominion, Kennesaw State and Indiana State.

The spread in the Ohio State - Rutgers game was 33 points.
You won't find that kind of point spread in any SEC conference game.
You have your own internal cupcakes.

This narrative is so incredibly misused and it's really dangerous to assume that is the reason they got left out of the playoffs. They got left out of the playoffs because they got drilled by UGA, lost badly to Florida and played incredibly poorly on the road at Moo State and UK, two of the leagues bottom dwellers. They could have easily survived the loss to Ohio State. In fact, I would argue their ranking shows that they were definitely not punished for that loss.

UGA cancelled the Louisville series because in 2027 UGA also had GT and FSU on the schedule.
UGA is okay with 11 of their 12 games being against P4 teams. But not 12 out of 12.
In 2027 UGA had 8 conference games along with GT, FSU and Louisville which was 11. But by adding a 9th conference game one of those 3 had to go (and it wasn't going to be GT).
UGA will also likely cancel either the OSU or Clemson series due to 2030 having GT, Clemson and OSU on the schedule... for the exact same reason. I'm hoping the Clemson one is what will go away.
Nobody else is playing 12 P4 opponents. It's stupid to expect UGA to do so.

they have 3 losses instead of 2.
Are you telling me they wouldn't have a better playoff chance with only 2 losses?

Disagree, look at Vandy this year. Had one of their OOC’s had been someone of note, they’d be in, obviously it wasn’t their fault VT cratered, but the point remains that, while a risk for sure. a win against a solid OOC can be be the difference.

how many teams can you name that made the playoffs largely becuase they had a nice signature OOC win?

SEC teams should schedule easier OOC games to use to develop talent and depth and not have to worry about losing the game. The nine game SEC schedule is more than enough to check the SOS box the committee says they're looking for. Sankey did us no favors by going to a nine game conference schedule so schools should adjust to benefit them more.

UGA usually has a weak schedule and always has the same school scheduled at the end of the year and in most years that school would be a group of 5 school. Kirby shouldn’t be complaining. They didn’t play tOSU this year.
