This trend of opting out of bowls is very telling

I believe within 10 years there’s only gonna be two major conferences and about 40 division one teams. There are only so many good players to go around and only a handful of teams that can actually even win a national championship. There’s no need for 130+ team division one. There never has been and the playoffs are going to correct all this. The television viewers are going to be the winners in this eventually.

4 - 16 team conferences. 2 divisions each.

64 total teams. Take top 64 by attendance (or revenue or some other measure).

Heck, I think it could happen within the next 5. Our beloved college football is no more.

I could see CFB eventually going towards a League model, (rather than the current Conference model), much like the NFL ... but it's not going to happen anytime soon. Certainly not in my lifetime because of cultural issues.

How that will be accomplished is, for the time being, irrelevant and a waste of time and energy even contemplating because it's nowhere close to being on the horizon.

The next logical step witll be Super Conferences and a 16 team playoff.

That’s probably where this is headed. The rest get their own playoff.

Much like today though some of those divisions are going to be far better than others, so play in games I think would be the way to go.

8 division leaders are in, top 4 ranked or conference championship winners get byes. Next 4 get home games, next 8 highest ranked teams (use Sagarin or something) have play in game to set the last 4. Keep the current bracket structure.

A quarter of the teams will have had a shot to get it. If they aren’t good enough for that and wanna bitch too bad.

A mechanism to move up or down should probably happen too, but no clue how to implement it.

While the bowl era is over, this isn't how the teams should treat them, a lot of work and money went into the bowls for a long time.

Shame on anyone for refusing to play.

And when all of this happens, I wonder if students that used to play football will put together intramural squads to play games …. and then maybe take the best squad from their college and set up games with other student intramural teams from other schools.

I made this same joke in person to a family member a few days ago.

I'd like to see football as such:

NFL
NFL minor league team

Players are not draft eligible until playing at least 1 year in the minors. You can to straight to minors after HS, or you can go from college any time you wish.

In college, you can transfer but you have to sit a year. All money goes through NCAA and is disbursed in a revenue-sharing model to the players.

Basically it would encourage actual student-athletes, and provide an out for guys who just wanna go pro.

Well said. Its the money (NIL). Players used to play for pride and love of sport. Now its all about money and if they can’t have their way they quit.

I honestly believe they didn't want to get embarrassed against Arizona St in the Sun Bowl.

I had no respect for Dame Saturday. Now I have even less.

Another internet post predicting the end of something as we know it. Just what the internet needs.

I think there will be consolidation and independent conferences are gone for big time teams, one 60 team league broken into 4 divisions, throw in relegation so teams who don't invest get sent down and replaced from the lower conference teams.

Let's be honest. The idea of "student athlete" died with NIL and Transfer Portal but had been on it's deathbed for 3-4 decades when schools started making acceptance exceptions for athletes.

The NFL needs to start a minor league where kids without the desire or aptitude for college can go to be paid and maybe get to the NFL. Kids that want an education can play the full ride scholarship and school pride. They would still have a path to the NFL, if good enough.

The schools and players got zero of that money. It all goes to Disney and the other networks. It’s time to push back. It’s always been a bad deal for schools and players and has only gotten worse

People keep crying doomsday. But there is more parity than there was 10 years ago.

Bowls lost some umphhh but the playoff gives you several very good games to make up for it.

CFB is improving. See the tv ratings…

Bowls are done.

Minor bowl payouts don't cover school travel expenses.

Extra practice time is meaningless when half the team may transfer.

Players pulling in thousands...hundreds of thousands...maybe even millions...don't really care about the "swag bags" anymore.

Just another byproduct of the rulings from retarded federal judges that have destroyed "college" football.
