So very sad. Prayers for Coach Smart and the family.

SEC/Big 10 Alliance

Posted by hornfan46 on 1/3/25 at 7:40 pm
All the talk concerning SEC supremacy and the affects of NIL and the portal are secondary in importance to the imminent alliance of the SEC and Big 10.

Over the next few seasons, both leagues will expand to 20-22 teams and breakaway from the NCAA. Notre Dame and other outliers will join one of these conferences before the door closes.

The ACC and Big 12 will lose their more marketable programs like FSU, North Carolina and Clemson. Major league college football will be born and, much like the NFL, will have two leagues competing through a similar playoff system. I believe this is where all of this is heading, and soon.
We are not the king of anything. The SEC is too vast and talented for anyone to rule over it for too long. Saban was king, now Georgia/Smart is.
The games weren't good, but the NFL playing 2 games Saturday was a major contributor. The League needs to take a step back and quit competing so much against their minor league system. Also, Goodell and owners, stop playing in the middle of the week on 3 days rest. Your players deserve to take Christmas off.

Good posts all around. It really comes down to talent.
Hornady, are you his agent? I've rarely seen such excessive praise over a relative unknown. I'm sure he's good, but better than Steve Young?
Mateer is a better runner than Sellers? Uh, no.

OU will be 6-6 or worse next year. Not concerned about their team, just pointing out their hypocrisy.

Oklahoma Hypocrisy

Posted by hornfan46 on 12/19/24 at 8:30 am
Remember when Lincoln Riley packed up for the west coast in 2022, leaving Oklahoma high and dry? The righteous indignation directed at Riley from OU faithful was palpable and seemingly deserved. Even I was tempted to feel some level of sympathy for the Sooners.

I should have known better. 3 years later, after villifying Riley and sentencing him to Sooner purgatory, Oklahoma hypocritically followed his example.

Washington State, already reeling from the Pac 10 breakup, pieced together a bowl season this year. Their reward? Oklahoma hires their OC so they can get their quarterback. Sound familliar? This resulted in Washington State losing their head coach yesterday.

All is fair in love, war and college football, especially with the portal. Just
be wary of those that feign injury only to celebrate when they do the exact same thing.
7-5 is correct. They will start 5-0, then the brutal schedule kicks in and they lose 5 of their last 7. Mateer then transfers to Oregon, like Gabriel, and OU starts over from the beginning.
Sellers and Manning will be better

Bye Michael Hawkins...I looked at Washington State's competition this year. Most of Mateer's successful games were against weak competition. I'm sure he's good, but even if you add the Branch brothers you are lacking good line play. Remember, the OU defense lost alot of talent after this season. I think you're looking at .500 next season with that difficult schedule.
Whatever extends Venables as the coach, I'm in!

I'll predict OU get the Branch brothers and they still won't sniff an SEC championship

I've seen it several times when a backup comes in and has success. The fans believe they are the answer only to have the next opponent adjust to them and slow them down. Notre Dame is not a good matchup for Georgia, especially with a backup running QB like Stockton.

Prediction Time

1st Round winners: OSU, ND, Texas, PSU
2nd Round : OSU, ND, Texas, PSU
Semis : Texas, ND
Championship : Texas
As a Texas fan of 50 years but a transplant from Michigan, I've seen and cheered for both sides of this discussion. As objectively as possible, I will say that the Big 10 has 3 teams that could compete in the SEC this season and still make the playoffs: OSU, Oregon and PSU. Top to bottom. the SEC is very good. There is one team that is not competitive, MSU. On any given Saturday, the other 15 could compete with every Big 10 team. Some SEC teams like OU, Auburn and Florida have improved alot since the start of the season and can now compete at that high level. If the playoff committee chose teams based on who they would wager on to win games, the SEC would get 6 teams in: Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and SC. The Big 10 might get in 3 if PSU made the cut. And that is comparative measure of the quality of the conferences.
Right state, wrong team...he's joining Arch at Texas
