CFP Poll Tweaked to Ensure Cross-Conference Matchups & Avoid Regular Season Matchups

Current CFP Poll is tweaked to support two most probable outcomes of Championship Weekend: OSU over IND (close game), Tx Tech over BYU, VA over Duke, and Bama over GA. NT vs Tulane (12th seed...regardless).
Final rankings: 1. OSU, 2. IND, 3. Tx Tech, 4. ALA(Ahead of all SEC Tms)
5. ORE vs. 12. Tulane/NT
6. GA vs 11. VA
7. Ole Miss vs 10. ND
8. TAMU vs 9. OKLA
Winner of first round game avoids regular season rematch in second round against top four seeded teams.
2nd Outcome: Same winners as above, except Bama loses to GA, then:
Final rankings: 1. OSU, 2. GA, 3. IND, 4. Tx Tech
5. ORE vs. 12. Tulane/NT
6. Ole Miss vs 11. VA
7. TAMU vs 10. ALA
8. OKLA vs 9. ND
Same avoidance of rematches in 1st or 2nd round.
If BYU wins, Duke wins, and Bama loses...tough decision on who gets final #10 slot between ALA, ND, and Miami. Space between Miami and ND will disappear and you have to consider HTH.

Bama is locked in. The ND and Miami thing is smoke.
They would have to put Bama behind 2 teams sitting at home for Bama to be left out.
How could they determine that ND is better than Bama but Miami is not if both Miami and ND sit at the house? If this were true than Bama would have been 10 tonight. Bama being at 9 means we are locked in. Your second outcome makes no sense
And if they rank Miami and ND ahead of Bama then the SEC title game disappears.

Wouldn’t a 2nd seed Georgia await the winner of A&M and Bama? Meaning we get UGA/Bama Round 3 if Bama beats A&M…

Oh the irony and hypocrisy.

Yes...very good point. CFP would probably use refs from Auburn to ensure a fair game:)

Which is exactly why Bama is locked at 9.
Theres no way Bama can lower than 9

A&M will absolutely smoke OU at home.

Georgia will be #2 if they win.
If Bama wins Bama goes to 4

Y’all do realize the CFP has dropped teams who lost CCGs in the past, right?
Bama can absolutely drop out of the CFP if they lose by enough.
Didn’t cost any teams last year but they did drop a spot or two.

You're not familiar with the definition of hypocrisy, are you?

I’m a 4 team playoff, not the current model. They are not the same scenario.

I 100% buy that they’re matchmaking.
But they will do whatever they want for the final ranking regardless.
I think they’ve done a decent job all things considered, but seeding vs playoff format were always two different issues… we should keep the playoff & bring back the computers.

Don't see Bama moving all the way up to #4.

They won't drop unless they don't show up or quit in the second half or something like that which would leave an embarrassing scoreboard result.
Outside of that, they are in. It'd have to be a three possession loss or a two possession where they scored a meaningless TD in garbage time.

Bama in 2011: “we sat at home for the SEC Championship Game but still deserve to get in.”
Bama in 2025: “no team that sat at home should get in ahead of us!”

no need the change the rankings but yes this should be a rule for matchups, no playing someone from your conf or a rematach until the simis
system should be
Lowest (best ) seed in a round plays the highes seed, that is not a conf opp or a rematch , and leaves all remaiing seed with legal opponets. system repeats untill allmatchups are made
if applied to curretn CPF rankings matchups are
5 Oregon vs 9 Bama
6 Miss vs 12 Tulane
7 Aggie vs 11 UVA
8 OU vs 10 ND
This round is unique becuase 6-8 all from SEC so none can play Bama, Oregon gets screwed a little
