No, the SEC is probably not quite as tremendous as last year. But it's still the best bball conference again.

It's still a really good league, but I think the B1G (and maybe the BXII) may have us beat this year.
The top of the B1G is certainly better, and the depth of the B1G looks to be pretty good this year too (Indiana, Iowa, UCLA, Ohio St, USC, Wisky, Nebraska, Northwestern). They have some stinkers at the bottom (Maryland, Minny, Rutgers), but it's a pretty deep league with an elite top group.
Same with the BXII - Houston, Arizona, Iowa State and then BYU, Kansas. The mid-bottom of the BXII isn't quite as good as it was in past years, but it's very good in the top half.

Can't remember a year when the league had so many good guards. Every Tue/Wed/Sat was a battle.

I can't really find any source that clearly ranks the basketball conferences. Pomeroy doesn't provide conference rankings unless you buy his subscription which costs $24.95, and I'm not going to spend $25 for that. Sagarin has inexplicably stopped providing CBK rankings ever since April 2024.

I dunno bout that. Michigan, Michigan St. and Purdue make the Big10 a pretty stout league.

Forgot the #1 Torvik ranked team, Michigan. They look ridiculously good right now.

Yea I was only listing the depth teams. Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State at the top is a formidable trio. I would have listed Illinois a few weeks ago, but not sure they are on that level. The coaching changes at Illinois and Iowa are huge shots in the arm because both of those guys can flat out coach.

We will learn a lot about LSU in the next few weeks playing SMU and Texas Tech. I refuse to believe McMahon is a winner, but this is a team Will Wade would easily have in the dance.

Metrics really like what LSU has done so far, even against a relatively weak schedule. Need to take care of business at BC and then beat Texas Tech.

My bad! But yeah, I think Michigan deserves to be ranked #1 in the AP Poll after what they did at Player's Era Tournament.

Without a close 2nd. That was one of the greatest weeks of regular season basketball in modern history, and none of it seemed fluky or heat checkish.

SOG, would you agree with the comparison below to last season's teams? Seems like the league might be a little more balanced but definitely not as good at the top.
Auburn - down compared to last season
Florida - down (nowhere to go but down)
Alabama - even
Tennessee - down
Texas A&M - way, way down
Kentucky - up
Ole Miss - even
Missouri - even
Ms State - down
Arkansas - up
Georgia - down
Vanderbilt - up
Oklahoma - up
Texas - up
LSU - up
South Carolina - even

Yea I think I'd agree with most of that.
I'd only change
Ole Miss - worse
Oklahoma - at best even, possible worse
Texas - I think up by the end of the year but right now pretty similar
Kentucky - they might put it all together, but while this team has more talent 1-12, I think last year's team was a much better fit for Pope's style. This team feels like a bunch of very good role players mashed together without any great shooters in a system predicated on shooting.
But yea - last year the last KenPom Rankings had this
3. Florida (Champ)
4. Auburn (Final 4)
5. Tennessee (Elite 8)
6. Alabama (Elite 8)
16. Kentucky
18. Texas A&M
19. Missouri
22. Ole Miss
Currently
10. Vanderbilt
11. Kentucky
13. Tennessee
14. Alabama
16. Florida
22. Auburn
23. LSU
It's still a good league, and maybe even slightly deeper than last year, but I don't think there are the elite teams at the top that there were last year. At least not at this point.

I figured they’d do well with Bucky-ball. Shows what I know.
