has of him staying?
Kind of like shopping for new vehicle if you are looking and serious you are going to buy it within a few days. You don't spend 30-45 days looking at vehicles.
Maybe I am wrong but I think Ole Miss chances to retain are a bit better now than they were 2 weeks ago.

Its either stay or Florida

That's certainly a possibility. Up until a week or so ago, I was certain he would be going to Florida, but LSU seems to have made it tough for Kiffin to say 'No'.
Ole Miss seems like a great job, and he's highly regarded there (for now, at least), and it looks like they're willing to pay up if needed. Some of the overtures coming from the athletic department at Ole Miss also indicate a possible happy outcome for them, but I'm still skeptical he stays.
You know, most coaches, though, their egos tell them they can achieve anywhere at any time and won't hesitate to walk into a pressure cooker job.

But can they? No one in that building will ever trust him again. Recruits will assume one foot is always out the door. Unless he wins a NC right now, will they ever extend him or offer a better contract?
I think that bridge is well and truly burned.

If it gets to Saturday morning and no leak or official statement has been released by LSU, that will be extremely odd

No football coach has ever stayed in OXFORD. No precedent has EVER been set !!!! FACTS!!!

Good point, Drydock. That's kind of the way I feel. Lane's been so cryptic about it and then even seems to enjoy the teasers from his kids and his daily writings or whatever they are...deep thoughts by Jack Handy????
I think if he and Ole Miss end up working out a deal, the damage control can be mitigated pretty quickly as long as they do well in the playoff, and especially if they win it all. It's really the players, fans, and the school admin I feel most for because they're having their hearts toyed with and put on hold.
There's no great way to tell a fanbase and players you're looking to leave, but the cat's out of the bag, so there's no sense in denying it and playing coy with what you're going to do. Does he really not know where he's going? Possible, but I think he's got a deal already in place at Florida or LSU, and it's being kept hush.
Still, it sucks to have a major program offer you an opportunity when the other schools in question snubbed their noses at you just 4 years ago, but you know coaches egos, so it's not shocking..

Would be best story in college football if he ends up saying he is going to stay. Then at some point when the season is over... Ole Miss fired his arse for all this bullshite. By then LSU and UF would have HCs under contract.
I know it wouldn't happen but my god... what a story it would be.

regardless how this plays out or where Kiffin is coaching next year I feel like he is damaging himself.
If he is staying, by not immediately squashing the rumors he sets himself up as a target. He is using his agent and uncertainty to gain more money. But, at even 10 million a year, he's probably not worth the cost. Certainly not higher.
If he's leaving, he is damaging a good program by stringing them along, while in a playoff hunt/run. I would think, as a guy who isn't a multi millionaire, that at some point money wouldn't drive a coach but a desire to win would. Like or loathe him, he seems to have built that at Mississippi.
I'm generally tired of the saga and I have little to no empathy to Kiffin at the moment. To me, he is playing games and that is bullshite IMO.

I feel like if he was staying he would just sign the new deal like Elko just did. His delay is evidence of his plan to move.

I think kiff is honestly socially retarded, can’t read a room(always in sabans doghouse) self anbsorbed and just let the whole thing really get away from him(media and how he handled it). I don’t think he meant to turn it into this. I think he was trying to make a buck or a move and just lost control.

Nothing wrong with waiting until after your last game to announce anything.
Posted on 11/25/25 at 10:38 am to Tridentds
Nah, that relationship has soured through this whole ordeal. Players and boosters with the cryptic tweets and posts says it's all over. No way he can stay, and if he does, he won't have the same clout in the future. The fans would turn on him the first time he fails to convert a 4th down. They're tired of the bull.

How much faster should it be going? The man is in the hunt for a college playoff spot and a chance to play for a NC. Is that not the pinnacle of why you coach? Not sure how this plays out but that would suck to lose out on that chance.
