We call Texas tu, or Texas University because that’s what they were named prior to 1963.

It was their name.

They are the ones that saw the rise of other universities in Texas and changed their name to be “The University of Texas”.

And yes, to affirm that you’re “The University” in a state that has over 100 schools is extremely arrogant.

So all the other schools in Texas not affiliated with their system call them tu.
A&M is just the largest.

They earned that name due to their own actions.

We aren’t “suddenly calling them tu to disrespect them”. We’ve called them that and so has everyone else since 1963.

Because they earned it.

We also “saw varsities” horns off.

Because their mascot used to be named varsity.

This is an objectively true statement that conveys the appropriate sentiment.

Strictly speaking, for all their puffery I have never met an orange clad who insisted on prefacing the name of the school whether spelled out or abbreviated with the word "The" the way those pretentious jerks from Ohio do everytime.

Wrong
In 1881, the Texas Legislature enacted legislation that included the following: "Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Texas, that there be established in this State, at such locality as may be determined by a vote of the people, an institution of learning, which shall be known as The University of Texas." In 1967, the Texas Legislature enacted legislation that changed the names of the universities in the UT system by giving them uniform designations, and the University of Texas was officially changed to The University of Texas at Austin.

Is University of Texas some kind of insult?

I don't get the purpose of the thread.

Welcome to our lives. At least you only have to hear this silliness 1 week out of the year.

The inferiority complex is sad. Aggies have a lot to be proud of without resorting to the pettiness.
