Smart move would be to pass on making Lane the highest paid coach in football history

He’s never had elite results as a head coach. Why should he get paid like he’s won 3 nattys?

I get the reasons a school would be tempted. Obviously. But the smart move is to pass and get a hungry up and comer on a salary that reflects that status, and let him try to prove. You can try again in three years if you need to without hamstringing yourself financially. And you could still put elite money on your roster.

He has twice been fired for what LSU is accusing Kelley of. That is ironic

The smart thing would be to pass on making Lane the highest paid coach in history. Surely no school would make the exact same mistake twice in a row.

Then I go read the coaching changes board and realize that is exactly what LSU fans are demanding.

I want to keep Lane but if LSU gets him and has to pay $15 million a year for 7 years, I’m good with it

They don’t exactly attribute a whole bunch smarts to us LSU fans.

Talk about a perfect way to “break” a rival.

It’s too late now for them to reverse course, but if they had any sense they’d crawfish on firing Kelly first cause. Such a bad, bad, bad look. What’s more, it’s wrong. It’s just wrong.

You can’t reason with idiots… Kelly killed a kid and when he was hired to the day he was fired it was muh winning percentages.
What two weeks ago, Saban was coming back… done deal they said …

LSU fans would argue with you for days that Kelly’s first two seasons; two 10 win seasons and a share of a western division title; were really good. Kelly was doing a great job, just look at that winning percentage.

Immediately upon being fired those exact same LSU fans would argue with you for days that Kelly was a complete bum and had done a horrible job coaching every season at LSU, especially those first two with Jayden Daniels.

Exactly.
Let’s not forget… “BK is a players coach. The kids love this stuff”…when a 60 year old is grinding on them.

I agree. They're no sure things in coaching. I'd prefer a huge bonus for success and a short contract. We wouldn't get a household name, but I willing to chance an up and coming coach that can be replaced with no major buyout.

They don't even have the money in escrow to pay BK and Woodward.

Their NIL funding will be gutted.

That is the strategy the university of Florida UAA has employed for 20 years and we’re now the laughing stock of college football because of it

Billy was a bust. No denying it. I don't think Jon Sumrall will be a bust. Troy was garbage when he arrived. Sumrall took command on day 1 and he built back to back conference championship teams. When he arrived, our QB was fat and couldn't do one pullup. By spring practice he looked like a different guy. Rusty Whitt will have the team in the best shape of their life. There will be micro-accountability for everything. Jon Sumrall subscribes to Jocko's extreme ownership philosophy. I'm telling anyone who will listen, Jon Sumrall at a school that wants to win and is competitive with NIL, facilities etc, will be a beast. I think whatever SEC school he lands at will win a natty in 2 years. All this talk about Kiffin and he's not the best coach out there.

haven’t seen much of him in the past except the Gasparilla bowl last year with his 3rd stringers against the gators and the only two games I’ve seen of his were ole miss and UTSA so I don’t have a super favorable sample size of his to judge

But after Billy he’d fail at Florida for sure. No one would get behind him or excited by him.

Golfing and beach trips instead of coaching?

Cause it’s not our money that’s why. It’s rich people’s money that have it to burn.
