I've posted about how this is a do or eventually die game for Kalen DeBoer. The stakes are about as high as it can be for Alabama heading into a game v. a 5-6 Auburn team. DeBoer has not played consistently on the road, especially against teams with a bad record heading into the game.

However, we must remember this: Auburn is not a very good football team in 2025. Their best path to victory is to turtle up and just run the ball on offense. If they try to throw it around a bunch or are forced into such situations then their OL is really going to struggle against Pierre, Russaw, and Overton.

Alabama just needs to be strong against the run and not have turnovers. They don't need to press, they just need to play a clean card and not let Auburn off the hook by letting them run the ball effectively. Make that team throw it 30 times and we probably win by multiple scores.

Saban said on Gameday he always struggled to get the players up to play Auburn but not Tennessee and LSU. If Deboer can flip that switch and make the Iron Bowl personal, he might succeed in the one area the GOAT couldn't fully master.

Would certainly be nice if we could make them quit in the first half and have AU’s coaching staff thinking about their next job in the 2nd half, but I’m not expecting that. I’ll take a win any way we can get it.

They aren’t as bad as their record suggests and there are a few bad matchups. You are right that they can only run the ball but explosive run plays have been a big weakness of our D. Overall we are the more talented team so if we play clean and mistake-free football we should win by multiple scores.

I thought Alabama matched Auburn's intensity very well last year. After their playoff hopes seemed over, I was worried that there would be a lot of apathy. Year 1 of a program, a lot of the veterans and folks who will transfer are checked out when that happens. I feel like that was Alabama's big problem post-LSU loss in Saban's first season. Guys like DJ Hall mostly checked out once the possibility of winning the SEC went out the window.

That game only stayed close because of turnovers. Seems to be a constant thread in the DeBoer era...something they need to start QCing religiously until it gets fixed.

Diego, you know that AU has rarely had good intensity for a full game when playing us in BDS, especially with a bad AU team. Pretty sure that over the past 20ish years, there’s been more blowouts in BDS than not. JHS is a whole different atmosphere.

Alabama had more of an edge on them than they ever did under Saban last year. They were sloppy as frick but they were chippy. I think that bodes well for not getting overwhelmed by a level of intensity they don't expect. I feel like that was always the problem with Saban's process v. Auburn. It is more than just a game for those folks. It's the modus operandi for Auburn Athletics. One of the few times that pursuit for self-improvement over focusing on results maybe didn't quite pay off...because you weren't playing a football team, you were playing a cornered injured animal apt to do anything.

Hope you're right Diego.

But we havent exactly dominated mediocre teams on our schedule lately, and Auburn has a defense that is absolutely capable of giving us problems.

I trust in our D, but they also have some legit weapons on O that can get loose.

And its at JHS, and its their super bowl.

Its also totally possible that we beat them by multiple scores and embarrass them. Wouldnt shock me. But, I'm fully prepared for a 4 quarter battle.

Vanderbilt put up 40 points on that defense.

They put up 14 on ours.

Oklahoma’s defense is far better than Auburns in every statical category for reference. They are solid but we have played better.

Thats a good point. I mean, we SHOULD roll. I just feel like this game is ripe to be a close one.

I saw some posts that Faulk got banged up yesterday. One of their starting safeties, Sylvester Smith, is going to miss the first half because of a targeting penalty.

The stakes were this high last year too: On the road at Norman.

I hope DeBoer eventually does well. But he’s going to have to prove it to me next weekend.

I hope so. But I can see this being similar to yall's FSU game. Hopefully though Bama plays its best game of the season in every phase of the game. Good luck to yall.

Our defense is playing great, but the Vandy 40 points is a bit of anomaly that I don’t think will translate.

That game was 6 days after AU’s DC was made head coach and they fired most of the offensive staff calling plays. There’s no way he had a chance to put as much prep time in for that game, and the Vandy offense is tricky even when you have plenty of prep time (and technically they didn’t have 40 in regulation, but not worth arguing over 2 points). He’s had 3 weeks to prepare for Bama’s offense with little additional distractions (and possibly huge incentives if he can pull out the win and they make him head coach).

I have a couple of questions.

Do you guys think Saban coached the Iron Bowl tight?

Do you think they jump out to an early lead, say 10 or 14-0?

i'd like to start off on offense. however, if grubb starts with 2 runs into the middle for little or no gain then has us in 3rd and long, whats the point. just start on defense and hope the d can keep them from scoring.

not sure how the offense reacts to being down 2 scores... would rather not find out. my personal jury is still out on grubbs playcalling.

We need an angry Ty... a fire deep in the belly Ty... relentless., not gonna fold under pressure Ty. Because the winning formula against us is a 63% blitz rate.
