Brian Kelly is not to blame and has a right to his money

He didn't create the contract. He knew what he had and signed it like most people would. You can be mad at him for not winning, but Woodward and the whole LSU admin is at fault for the contract. Anybody in their right mind would try to get the full buyout if they were in his shoes. A contract is there for a reason and you're supposed to honor it. In the end, Brian Kelly will make out like a bandit (and rightfully so) when he gets his full buyout.

The "buyout negotiations" notion is laughable.
The only incentives he might have for taking less are the removal of any mitigation requirement or a lump sum up front instead of installments.

CBK said he’d take $43 mill and call it a day
LSU should have agreed and avoided all the bad publicity.

Correct; however, this assumes that LSU actually has $43M.

LSU is not a top5 coaching destination.
Top destinations don't need their former coaches to sue them to get paid.

He would probably take 38 then. Or a little less LSU needs to be done with it.

What’s crazy is LSU fans are acting like he shouldn’t get anything. Their Administration is literally trying to screw a former coach out of money he is entitled to. If this were Bama or UGA trying to screw over a coach they fired, LSU fans would be screaming from the rooftops, and rightfully so.

"Lane, we will pay you whatever you want. But if you suck, we will tell you to geaux frick yourself and offer less than half the buyout as settlement."

Maybe you could've saved a little by not putting it in the contract to begin with??

Now that LSU has gone through the optics to fire him twice and "for cause" I don't see any kind of settlement

No, not correct. The way the contract works is CBK gets paid the full amount of the contract from LSU if he coaches the entire term of the contract - 10 years - at LSU.
If he’s fired before then, he only gets paid by LSU until he finds another job. Then, what LSU pays him is offset by the amount his new employer pays him.
If he’s doesn’t look for a new job, LSU doesn’t pay him.
So, actually… CBK offered LSU a buyout that is almost certainly far above what LSU would have paid him if they’d just wait and let him get a new job elsewhere next year.
It’s very likely that LSU will end up paying Brian Kelly 10-15 million, and his new employer will pay him next year or year after.

Probably a good thing, since LSU is about to have to pay 43mm plus legal fees now.

Going to actually cost more and bad publicity…wouldn’t have expected anything less from LSU

Kelly is the blame for being a bad coach. He still is owed his money.

Yep..being a fired CFB coach early as hell can make you very, very rich. It is insane.

Everyone knows what offset mitigation is. You owe him 53 million dollars. If he finds a job, that salary would offset what you owe but we all know that he won't find a job that pays anywhere close to that and we also know that the mitigation verbiage in his contract is ridiculously weak. That's why the 43 million dollar lump without an offset was mentioned. You offered him less, he said no, and you still owe him 53 million dollars.

A booster was going to cover it but that was a lie. Now the poorest state in the union’s “flagship” university can’t pay, doesn’t have money for a lawsuit, can’t buyout Kiffin or build a staff but we are supposed to believe they can make Kiffin the highest paid coach in the business and shell out 25 million a year for NIL (they’ve proven that’s not realistic for them).
