Does Lane have enough leverage, with the ongoing bidding war, to insist on an upfront payment, whether it be in the form of a signing bonus, or a fully guaranteed contract payable before services are rendered? ... Would one of these schools offer him $50 million up front for three or four years? That would be hard to turn down.

For the sake of the sport I hope he has a snowballs chance in hell for that.

Not with Florida, hell no. This is why we have zero chance to land him. Both the other schools know they are bidding against a cheapskate.

Looks like his impending contract may totally reset the market... If he's paid 16 million a year... Kirby, Deboer, Ryan Day, among others, are going to want to be paid commensurately

I'm starting to think this is all a publicity stunt and the Ol' Miss AD is in on it.
OM is getting a lot of attention out of this and it will help recruiting when Lane stays at OM because he loves it so much there.

What will be funny is if lanw ends up on the outside looking in, everyone is getting tired of his shite including his current employer.

Not to mention he could frick over some of his biggest rivals by stringing them along until the last minute.

The only leverage Lane has is in people's minds. His historical performance is not worthy of this hoopla.

It's not like Kirby or prime Saban is being auctioned to the highest bidder.

True enough ...but right now you have three SEC schools with essentially open checkbooks... A coaches dream... Good for Lane not good for college football

I'd take Sumerall or Golesh or Morris at half the money, maybe even less. These hires are always such a crapshoot anyway.

My bad. Didnt see that Verge got the nod. Surely not a Landry puppet right? Landry did mention some pretty interesting future LSU HC contract contingencies and structuring

Paying Kiffin $16 million is going to hurt the assistant Coaches pool and NIL.

Universities are expecting AD's to have a balanced budget and there is a lot of mandatory Title lX spending.

LSU is already out $60 million for Kelly and Woodward, not in lump sum, but it is still a hit.
