Could the CFP force Ole Miss to let Kiffin coach the playoffs even if he chose to leave

There is a lot of talk of the cfp committee keeping ole miss out if they won’t allow Kiffin to coach.

Would this force ole miss to allow him to coach if he wanted to leave? Would they really want to miss the play offs after this year even if it meant letting him coach? Is that too much negative press for the school or positive press for lane as a coach?

Wild times we are in and what a scenario that would be.

Sure, if they want to employ him.

The NCAA can't enforce their own "rules." You think they can force a school to employ someone and force that school to allow that person to act on behalf of that school?

If this is a thing and the situation comes up, ole miss better call their bluff.

So the FSU situation from a few years ago. The committee decides who is in based 100% on off the field stuff.

LOL. The college football playoffs aren't a governing body. They don't have the authority to force anything.

They obviously couldn’t actually enforce it literally. They would just leave ole miss out.

We have 27 year old seniors out here playing on their 8th season. They would lose that lawsuit before it's even been filed.

No, but they should drop them from the playoff if he actually leaves. They set the standard dropping FSU over their QB being hurt so this shouldn't be much different.

You are just digging yourself deeper.

The playoff committee is not part of the NCAA. The CFP playoff committee would have to jump through crazy hoops to exclude an Ole mIss team that is top 8 or so in the country. This isnt the FSU situation when there was only 4 teams.

If we go 11-1 and they leave us out because our coach left just dissolve the committee completely and let AI decide the bracket

I'm not saying it would be fair but they set the standard that if one of the most important components of your team is lost before the playoff you are out.

Totally get what you're saying and it is still dumb not just unfair. The committee was a foolish endeavor from the inception.

First of all, you don't want a coach that doesn't want to be there. Also there is a precedent.

quote:

Steve Fisher was unexpectedly promoted to head coach of the University of Michigan men's basketball team right before the 1989 NCAA Tournament, and the team went on to win the national championship. Athletic director Bo Schembechler promoted Fisher, who had been an assistant, after the previous coach, Bill Frieder, accepted a job at Arizona State and was forced to leave the team. The team's tournament run culminated in an overtime victory against Seton Hall in the final game.

Michigan (and Fisher) won their only national championship that year. Neither Arizona State, nor Bill Frieder have ever won a national championship.

I think the standard they set was they did not believe FSU was one of the 4 best teams without their QB. Pretty sure the CFP said they were the 5th in the final ranking, not that they were disqualified. Which would qualify in the 12 team playoff. This isn’t complicated.

I remember that. The players on Michigan (this was pre cheating Fab 5) actually lobbied the AD and school to pony up the money and get Frieder a championship ring. I thought that was pretty cool

They could do whatever they want. Team isn’t the same without the head man in charge
