Yes this is another coaching hire discussion but hopefully it won’t be about specific candidates.
I’m gonna list out some priorities that seem to be popping up in every discussion. Please list your top 3 priorities out of these options or if I skip a priority of yours add it to your list. I would like to see what most people are thinking.
Roster retention
Coach retention
Head coaching experience
Offense/defense scheme
Recruiting
Culture fit
Brand of football
Players coach
Hard arse coach
I’ll contribute my top 3 later in the thread

Nobody knows their own priorities.
Same people that said Sumrall and Durk would be great are now clowning the AD for forcing Durk on Sumrall. When in reality Sumrall isnt tbat splashy already and needs a Durk
My priorities in order:
Brand of Football
Offensive/ Defensive Scheme
Recruiting

Brand of football - Winning
Roster retention - Critical since we have a great roster, but id rather rebuild with a winning coach then keep this team and be 6-6 again next year.

For those that are adding in the vague “brand of football”. What does that mean to you? I know what it means to me

*Talent recruitment & evaluation, and applying talent to task
*Organization & attention to detail
*Game Planning Strategy. The ability to dissect opponent weaknesses and exploit them, and make in-game adjustments
*Ability to teach and cultivate physical toughness
I realize that one man isn’t going to do this, but these should be the priorities for he and his staff.

to this day i wonder how in hell those making the decisions for our football program three years ago looked carefully at the Creed, then at Freezus, and said “thats our boy”

Seems so much like a given, but when you look at our last two hires, I guess sometimes you need to state what should be obvious out loud.

It doesn’t. Just talking points to see how people view what is important them.
For me it’s a gauge of what the fanbase is looking for. I think that’s important in the hiring process. To lay out what is important to the Auburn family.
Yes any style that wins is acceptable. So winning cures all. But when you have that tough loss can you look at the coach and say yep he had everything right it just didn’t go our way

I would like to get back to where we run the ball and make the other team hold our pockets while we do it. Our defense has been pretty solid, other than a few issues here and there. Consistency on offense is something we have lacked since hell, I don't know when. We've had flashes here and there, but as we all know, it's been a dumpster fire for a long time.
