Playoff Bye Scenario

If I am reading correctly, if Georgia wins out they would get off the SEC championship and get a bye for the first round of the playoffs? Meanwhile, A&M and Bama would play for a tough game for a potential bye and Bama is out if they lose?
Also, let’s say Bama wins out then loses the SEC championship. Would that mean A&M, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma go while Bama goes home at 10-3 when they all have only 0-2 losses?
Why even play the championship?
Make it make sense…
“An SEC champion does not automatically get a bye for the playoffs; an automatic bye is not part of the new 12-team College Football Playoff format. Byes are now awarded to the four highest-ranked teams overall, regardless of whether they won their conference championship or not.”

Won’t happen. Whoever goes to the champ game will be in no matter what

That’s how I’m seeing it too unless bama jumps to 4 if they beat a&m pushing uga to 5? If this scenario holds then UGA has a massive amount of time off before playing a huge game which wasn’t beneficial at all last year. No one could have predicted Alabama losing to Oklahoma so that threw this thing into a blender as far as possible outcomes go

i do remember all the screaming to keep us out because we were not a conference champion. We may be down but we are not out.
I'll guarantee you should we beat AU and lose the SECCG they will keep us out of the playoffs even though the committee has said in the past they won't penalize a team for playing that extra game.

If Alabama is in top 12 after the auburn game, they’re in the playoffs regardless of the secc

The Committee has made it clear (and they actually followed through with SMU last year) that a team will not be punished for losing a conference championship game.

lol why would no one have predicted it ? Some did including your own UGA alum Pollack . If people were paying attention the game was evenly matched per stats .

If Bama was 12 wouldn’t they be at risk of being bunped for a G5 team

If both USC and Michigan win out, Alabama is in serious danger of being bumped out

Last year is not this year. They have made no such statements this year

Yeah OU over Bama was the most likely upset pick of the week

If it comes down to 10-2 Oklahoma or 10-3 Alabama with a loss in Atlanta, 10-2 Oklahoma should get the spot.

1. Ohio State (Big 10 Champ) - vs Rutgers @ Michigan
2. Indiana (at large) - @ Purdue
3. Texas A&M (SEC Champ) - vs Samford @ Texas
4. Georgia (at large) - vs Charlotte @ GT (Atl)
5. Texas Tech (Big 12 Champ) - @ West Virginia
6. Ole Miss (at large) - @ Miss St
7. Oregon (at large) - vs USC @ Washington
8. Notre Dame (at large) - vs Syracuse @ Stanford
9. Oklahoma (at large) - vs Missouri vs LSU
10. Alabama (at large) - vs East Illinois @ Auburn
11. #16 Georgia Tech (ACC Champ)* - vs Pitt vs UGA
12. NR JMU (Group of 5 Champ)* - irrelevant
13. BYU - @ Cincinnati vs UCF
14. Utah. - vs KState @ Kansas
15. Vandy - vs Kentucky @ Tennessee
16. Texas. - vs Arkansas vs A&M
17. Miami - @ VaTech @ Pitt
18. USC - @ Oregon vs UCLA
19. Michigan. - @ Maryland vs Ohio State
20. Virginia - vs VaTech
Outside the conference Oregon seems most likely to fall out.
In conference, I think Oklahoma could have a let down against Miz next week.

My thinking is whoever is top 4 pre-championship games will remain in their spot unless they are passed by a team that wins their conference championship game. The committee doesn't want teams punished just for making the game.

Not buying the James Madison hype. They have literally beat no one. Pretty sure the committee will put in the winner of the American conference - either North TX, Tulane or Navy when it comes down to it.

Oklahoma should get the spot by virtue of beating Bama in Tuscaloosa. Plus Alabama has a Loo’s to a bad FSU.
Making the SEC Championship game and losing shouldn’t matter.

I agree OK should go over Bama if it comes down to that because of the head to head win.

Agree but it won't happen like that IF the committee has the same hard fast rule they used last year about CCGs

All of the "sources" have been adamant that a SEC/Big 10 conference runner up will not be left out. This was one of the talking points during all of the meetings that have happened over the last couple of years.
