That's insane. I guess if they can get it and it helps crowd control, that's not a bad business decision.

I remember Texas weekend in 2012 it got up to $100 and they were still not letting people in. I can’t imagine how much money they made just in cover that weekend

paying $120 to go buy 10$ beers is nuts.

This is the way. Oxford was always more than bars. I used to go find parties and crash them for fun. It was easy because there were so many. I met a lot of friends that way.

Well, how it was broken down to me today was, you go to the bar at 4 and pay $40 or whatever reduced cover and then camp there until close. Okay well, I'll drink myself to death by closing time if I'm there at 4 and still go broke.

Not only are you paying for cover and beer but also waiting forever for a damn beer. It’s a waste of time and money.

Standing shoulder to shoulder to wait for beers and bathroom with music so loud you can’t hear anyone talk
A real blast
Then you gotta take the $40 Uber home due to surge pricing . Frick this shite

$250-$300 for one trip to the bar and a ride home is ridiculous.
And it's shoulder to shoulder??? Talk about wiping your arse with money.

It’s a completely odd and foreign concept lost on us folks who are no longer of college age and haven’t been in quite some time this standing shoulder to shoulder in music so loud one cannot think. Sounds like torture to me and quite honestly always did. But I did it. For a little while anyway.

Yeah, I hate big cities and I hate crowds. I guess I just don't like people very much in general. But all these things that the younger ones love is exactly what I hate. I mean, I get it. Larger crowds equal meeting more possible mates. But give me an endless supply of alcohol and a solitary chair on a deserted beach and that's my happy place. If I got stuck on Gilligan's Island, I wouldn't try to escape. (Especially if Mary Ann was stuck with me)

Hahaha, or Ginger. Just not Mrs. Howell.

This is the key reason for the fluctuating covers. Lots of people and limited space. They have to keep the crowds and lines moderated to some degree. Plus, less likely for altercations if the patrons are already heavily invested just to get in.
Not sure if they still do it. But, some of my students would purchase "Library Cards" to keep the costs more manageable throughout the year. Also, unsure if they had blackout dates for big games weekends

They still do it. I like the idea. Keeps the college kids from getting priced out. Doesn’t impact me one way or another, I would never go near a bar on a game weekend

I've been in there before when it was $120, though I didn't pay that myself. I used to play up there from time to time and was friends with some folks who worked there at the time some years back. Occasionally, I'd go up there after a big game just to watch life's pageant from the relative safety of the FOH stand.
It's amusing to take in under those circumstances, but I can't imagine paying that to be there.

I think I went to the Library twice the whole time I was in school. I hate packed bars and despise waiting to get a drink. When I go to the bar, I’m a man on a mission to get shite faced (well, back then anyway). I never had to pay a cover at The Blue Marlin, and half the time the shots were free because the bartenders wanted someone to get shite faced with them.

I was lucky enough to be friends with the sports marketing student workers while I was in college and rode their coattails past the lines and in for free the last few years of college. That was a fantastic time.

After the game a kid who seemed to be a student said the cover for that place was ridiculously high
