Oklahoma this weekend - not a good match up

I hate to say this, but I think that this weekend might get ugly based on what we watched last night. Hope I’m wrong but this offensive coaching staff is not very good. Grubb has really underwhelmed by and large with his play calling. The running game has been a disaster. Now, we have arguably the best defensive unit coming to town with Venables having two weeks to prepare after dominating Tennessee in Knoxville.

I mean it was always going to be a tough game.
Our defense is playing elite ball right now, so even if our offense is off again, I have faith in those guys.
Im not quite as worried about the offense as some of yall. I think theyll figure it out.

Better hope that we spent the bye week on Oklahoma and have something up our sleeves for Venables.

450+ total yards and nearly 400 yards passing for TN. You might want to rethink your Chicken Little line of thinking. It was always going to be a tough game, but they’re no more of a matchup nightmare than UGA or Vandy.

Sounds like bamatide07 might be doom and gloom all week. I'll bet I can guess his old password though.

You didn't watch this game. It was really Tennessee's offense dominating and just making one after another backbrealing mistake.
Credit to Oklahome for taking advantage but just on run of play this game could have very easily been Tennessee up by 3 touchdowns in the 2nd quarter.

Just being real. The offense has been stale the last two games. I don’t see us having any chance of a running game getting going against this unit. Relying solely on Ty winning the game is not a great recipe for success.

Actually think it's a much better matchup for our offense than LSU was (Auburn is the same). LSU has a very good pass rush and a very good back end, but is not great in run defense. We can't exploit that.
Oklahoma and Auburn are elite run defenses but have susceptibility on the back end. Take a look at what Tennessee and Ole Miss did to Oklahoma through the air - the only 2 pass offenses they've played with a pulse. Aguilar had 3 backbreaking turnovers - but on most plays their WRs were running free in the secondary.
And we're going to be in Mateer's face all night and he will give us 2-3 chances to take the ball away.
It's gonna be a war, but we can exploit their back end.

OU gave up a lot of yards to Tennessee but they stopped them when it mattered. I believe that Venables had the same game plan for them that he had for us in the national championship game when we got blown out in Santa Clara. They would give up plays but buckle down in the red zone. And caused all kinds of disruption. Remember that he baited Tua into throwing a pick six.

That offense was an RPO offense that they felt they could win at the LOS and drop 8, which made it nearly impossible to run for us in the red zone. Part of that was that they had 4 elite NFL DL up front, but it was a brilliant scheme that they executed very well and because of the numerical advantage we just had no answer for. They don't have that this year - aka they can't rush 3 and drop 8 on standard downs and get to Ty. They can stop our run game with 3 or 4, though.
Ole Miss and Tennessee torched them through the air. Their front 7 is elite and their scheme is very good but their back end is extremely suspect and young. This will be a game where there is no reason to keep pressing the run game just to do it. Screens, bubbles, jet sweeps with Germie, etc as a run game replacement and beat them in space. They busted a lot against Ole Miss and Tennessee.
Cannot afford to run up the middle on 1st down and get into 2nd and 11 and 3rd and 7 repeatedly or Venables pressure stuff will create major issues. If we stay ahead of the chains we will move the ball and hit explosives.

I worry about their pass rush. R. Mason Thomas is an absolute beast.

For sure - but we've been relatively good in pass protection so far this year. Biggest thing at this point is when they do beat somebody that Ty doesn't put it on the ground, which has become a disturbing trend.

The LSU defensive coaches had a good game plan last night. They were bringing pressure from all angles and it affected Ty. He missed a wide open pass to Germie that should have been a walk in touchdown had it been accurate. The pressure clearly rattled Ty. I have to say that the LSU defense is not getting enough credit by people. They are very talented and an upgrade over the last two seasons by a wide margin. They were aggressive and hit hard.

Their offense also has to go against the number scoring defense in SEC play. That’s side of the game can’t be overlooked. They aren’t great offensively either.

I guess we have to pull out those LANK shirts again.

Our defense held LSU to by far their lowest point total of the year. That is somewhat surprising given how much we've hand-wrung over KW's defense.
We might also note the LSU's defense has been effective against everyone except TA&M (gave up 49) and Vandy (31). Even Ole Miss was held to 24 while giving up 19 to LSU. Both Vandy and Texas A&M gave up 24 and 25, respectively.
I debate whether to credit the d with only giving up 6, since the offense set up LSU in field goal range, because one the other hand LSU missed a chip shot. Come to think of it, didn't the offense set that attempt up with great field position too?

Does the fact that our running game sucks so much negate the fact that OU has the best rush defense in the country or is that just a real simpleton way of looking at it?
