Funny how some rival fans are crucifying him for this. Only the idiots without a football IQ at all can't grasp this.

Only the fricking low life degenerate gambler.

Yep, I give zero fricks that we didn’t cover.

I would have preferred seeing the touchdown but simply killing the clock made sense.

I thought it was slightly risky. I mean, what if something bizzare happened and we fumbled the next play? Either way it's what the coaches told him to do.

What's bizarre is when a player does not do the team first thing. Gumner is team first.
If you kneel the game ends. If you score, the game continues. Easy choice.

Watch the end of the OU/TN game (starts at 14:30 in this video).

Good thing Gunner has his head on a swivel. Seems like I remember one Florida game (but not the year) where our QB took a knee in the backfield and Florida's DL came across and pounded him. I don't believe they even drew a penalty for that.

Thank you, seeing all the danger as that game play out yesterday made me so happy that our guys play smart instead of padding stats

It was in the Urban Meyer years and a penalty flag was thrown

I told my wife and kid when it happened, this is going down in Georgia Lore for eternity, long beyond our lifetimes.
Does anyone have the Scott Howard call on that one? Was it any good?

2007. Uf jumped offsides and we quick snapped. Stafford knelt but their DT jumped over the line and tackled him.

I heard Scott Howards call (or lack thereof) in real time. I think Scott thought Bowens got the handoff and didn’t realize Gunner had the ball until after he took the knee.

I don’t know what the all-time percentages are, but I have to imagine the odds of a team fumbling a kneeldown play, the other team recovering, and then going 90+ yards for a game-winning TD HAVE to be lower than the odds of a team scoring quickly down 11, getting the onside kick and then scoring again to win.
If you fumble on a kneeldown, you deserve to lose. It’s the most dummy-proof play in sports.

see Vandy Texas or UTenn Okie for why you knee down in play....... Teams return kickoffs, have miracle plays etc... Taking the snap and kneeing is the least risky thing you can do and it allows you to control the clock to zero.

Some fellow fans and myself were talking about it and speaking of risky....what if we had scored and then UF gets the ball back and CJ Allen blew out a knee on UF's final drive? Smart would be crucified for not just making Stockton take that knee.

Yep, Kirby wasn't upset at Gunner for the final TD vs Auburn, he was concerned about unnecessary snaps vs a chippy rival with nothing to lose.

I think it’s more likely the coaching staff told Gunner he fricked up against Ole Miss by scoring at the end of the game, giving OM the ball back (no matter how unlikely a comeback may have been). He clearly learned his lesson lol

I imagine that Bobo gave Stockton his marching orders over the headset after calling in the play.
