Yes. On one hand, the powers that be want a purely professional sport filled with mercenaries who have zero loyalty to the school. On the other hand, they need the school for the fanbase and the cultural/historical attachments that come with it. Total hypocrisy.

Transfer portal

This is a big part of it. Immediate eligibility after transferring. Then it’s compounded by NIL because you can back channel an offer and basically have them enter the portal. It’s unlimited free agency.

NIL + Transfer Portal + No waiting period for transfers

It's a trifecta of shite that has ruined the game.

Not to mention the idiots who still cling to the belief that this somehow "gives parity". No, it doesn't - and one-off seasons where a team can make a run isn't proof that it is (i.e. Vandy). We had those well before all of this crap happened.

From my perspective, yes. Well unregulated NIL and unrestricted transfers (portal) together have made CFB into a semi-pro league. Hell even professional leagues regulate player pay and movement.

There is no “powers that be” it is a system left in shreds after some judges tore down what we had before.

100% it has. You are going to see the sport degrade over the next 10 to 20 years.

The transfer portal is a bigger issue

Fixing this would fix everything. Back to sitting out a year if you leave

Yes. I don’t know what we are doing now. Everyone expects to win tomorrow. Peoples expectations have gotten way out of whack. I don’t know if the if things can ever go back to the was it was but if some limitations are not put on NIL soon then college football may not survive.

I have zero problem with these kids making money off their god given talents especially since this is the best it will get for most of them. The transfer portal has fricked the sport. There needs to be salary caps and contracts.

It’s mainly this, but I don’t think it’s ruined it for anyone other than the blue bloods who used to hoard 5* talent. I love the new parity we’re seeing.

I was telling a friend this the other day. NIL advocates act like schools extract value from players and offered nothing in return before NIL, but think about this: take an average starter in the SEC and the amount of money they make through NIL and compare that to what they’d be making if they were a minor league pro player on something like the Lawrenceville Falcons or the LaPlace Saints. The value comes from the jersey they’re wearing and the love that alumni and fans have for their university.

Considering that kids sue whenever the NCAA told them they had to do ANYTHING, it won't work - they'll either rule you can't do that again, or they'll do something asinine like say that sitting out a year adds an extra year of eligibility or other such nonsense.

Without question..yes!

First it destroyed the blue blood cheaters paying players under the table to out perform honest programs. They all really hate it.

Second it is now minor league football. Teams that pay the most will win.

College football just like the old SEC is extinct.

I like it for those “tweeners” who may have had to sit on a bench behind someone a little better. But teams shouldn’t have to worry about losing their starters to rival teams every year.
