"To help prospective college students narrow down their school choices following the release of 2026’s College & University Rankings, WalletHub compared more than 400 U.S. cities of varying sizes based on 31 key indicators of academic, social and economic opportunities for students. The data set ranges from the cost of living and the crime rate to the quality of higher education in the city."

They list Austin as #1.

I like Austin. Great place. Not really a “college town” feel, though.

Interesting stat...wonder how they've been able to secure all of these top recruiting classes for the last 10 years despite that?

#3 Orlando, FL

Lol at this ranking. I went to UCF. Unless things have changed since 2012, Orlando is a total shithole. People forget there's an entire city outside of the theme parks and that city is mostly dilapidated buildings in dire need of renovating. Plus, even back then, it was expensive as hell, no one spoke English, crime was out of control and the women are literal gargoyles. I enjoyed T-Town (as do e most people who aren't rival football fans) far more than I did Orlando.

List is arse. I like Gainesville but if I'm a 21 year old student, I'm definitely picking Athens.

I lived there for three years and "college town" never even entered my mind.

It’s a medium size Alabama town. What exactly do people want?

This list adds a town/city if it has a college in or near it.

Not true "college towns".

Damn, then why do people come from every major city in the country to Bama and leave calling it the best 4 years of their young life? Tuscaloosa is the perfect size for a college town if you want all the comforts, but still feel like the university dominates the city.

Yep, I'd rather live in that toxic waste dump in Baton Rouge.

It's a state capital and turning into tech hub.

Not a college town.
