Over the last 20 years, Bobby Petrino’s offenses have consistently ranked among the most productive in college football, blending pro-style structure with creative passing concepts. At Louisville (2004–2006), his teams averaged over 40 points and 480 yards per game, finishing top 10 nationally in total offense each season and peaking at 2nd in scoring offense in 2006. When he moved to Arkansas (2008–2011), Petrino’s Razorbacks developed one of the SEC’s most dangerous passing attacks — Ryan Mallett threw for 3,869 yards and 32 TDs in 2010, helping Arkansas finish 3rd nationally in passing offense and 9th in total offense.
Petrino’s offenses were defined by vertical route trees, precise timing, and heavy use of play-action off power running looks. Across those Arkansas seasons, his teams averaged roughly 36 points and 450 yards per game, remarkable for an SEC program built around balanced play-calling. After returning to Louisville (2014–2018), he evolved with the times, incorporating spread and read-option elements to maximize Lamar Jackson’s dual-threat skills. In 2016, Jackson’s Heisman year, Louisville averaged 42.5 points and 532.7 yards per game, ranking 2nd nationally in total offense.
Even at Missouri State (2020–2022), Petrino revitalized a dormant FCS program, taking them to their first playoff berth in 30 years while averaging nearly 400 yards per game in 2021. His more recent stints, including coordinating at Texas A&M and returning to Arkansas in 2024, show him maintaining his core — complex passing schemes paired with adaptable tempo.
Despite controversy and frequent job changes, Petrino’s offenses have averaged around 34–38 points and 440+ yards per game across two decades. His hallmark remains quarterback efficiency, meticulous play design, and a relentless emphasis on exploiting defensive mismatches.

We are in a pretty good spot. We can aim high for a coach but don’t have to gamble on a Chad Morris type with Petrino already here.
If we could add a Mark Stoops or DJ Durkin as DC once they are available I’d be all in.

I’m not reading that, but yes we all already assumed Petrino would be Arky’s next coach.

The Hogs deserve Petrino and Petrino deserves being marooned in Fayetteville.
The man can coach, but he is an absolute shite-stain of a human being.

But you fired him. Why? Was he castrated while at other places?

You won't ever have a defense to stop anybody under Petrino. I wouldn't hire him if I'm Arky. Y'all have already gone down that road and it didn't end well and as soon as Motorcycle Bobby gets comfortable, I can promise you the foolishness will start up again. It's tough for leopards Bobby's age to change their spots. I'd go a different direction.

If he gets AR into playoffs, they'll give him the VB team and a Harley dealership

From 2008-2011 our Defensive rankings went from 94th in a rebuilding year to 58, 47, and then 33. Combine that with a lethal offense and support from NIL/Rev Share perspective and we would compete in the SEC with the parity we are currently seeing.

Make no mistake. Your entire offense is Green. Individual playmaking with his elusiveness and speed.
Not some genius offensive scheme. Not saying Petrino isn’t a good offensive coach but you really need to take a step back and understand exactly why it is working. One guy with rare talent.

If only Petrino had a history of developing that kind of QB talent, oh wait he does.

Petrino is a heck of a coach. Give him a chance, with this coaching change environment yall could do a lot worse.

Petrino should be Arkansas' only choice at this point. He knows how to win and has already proven it at Arkansas.
