I thought it would be today. The wheels have come off and it’s time to move on. So what does the timeline look like? Predictions?

There are going to be a lot of job openings this season that are more attractive than Auburn. It is going to be a tough year for Auburn to hire a good, established P4 coach that doesn’t have a ton of baggage. They would likely have better luck trying to hit pay dirt with a coordinator, but that is always a gamble.

Unless they get the meddling under control, it won’t really matter who they hire though.

I'm hearing that South Carolina's offensive coordinator is getting a hard look from Rane & Co.

Rest assured, whoever the powers that be at Auburn hire will be the wrong choice.

If they didn't fire him today I can only think they are willing to ride it out until the end of the season.

Joe Sloan will likely be available at the end of the season. Him as head coach, Billy Napier as OC, Matt House as DC. Jimmy Rane will handle all the third down playcalling.

On a related note, where will Cam Coleman transfer to after the season?

The wheels haven't come off. You've been beat by mostly one score games by the top teams in the SEC with help from the refs. Your offense needs a little work and Hugh Freeze is an offensive genius.

The problem with Auburn is they are never happy for long. You can't build anything b/c you keep changing coaches every 2 or 3 years. You were fools for running off Tuberville, Chizik, and Malzhan. You're getting wooped at Arkansas next week, you might squeak out a win vs KY and you'll beat Mercer. Your next coach won't be the same caliber as Freeze.

The Malzahn contract extension after 2017 is what started all this mess.

Exactly. This year the Coaching Carousel is going to be the Wild Wild West. Auburn would be waaaaaay down on the list of attractive jobs. If AU has any sense, they won't fire Freeze unless they already have his replacement signed. Otherwise, they'll get whatever scraps are left after everyone else eats.

You know, like their last few searches.

The crime is those players on defense are really good and played their guts out.

The offense is warmed over dogshit.

He signed an NIL deal with Nike a few weeks ago. I imagine he’ll go to Oregon.

I'd say it was firing him without an obvious plan for a replacement, which is really what led to Harsin. I don't know how you can fire a guy who was generally good for 8+ wins and not be almost positive you could hire a guy who'd be good for 9+.

Hugh Freeze is a man of God and Auburn - the school, not the fanbase - understands that. Some things are more important than wins and losses. Hugh Freeze fits that program too well to consider firing him.
