I think after a win this coming weekend (Vandy defense is not good) ...

You lock Drink up for the stretch run.

He's going to get calls from at least 3-4 solid programs (PSU, Florida, FSU, Auburn ... realize a couple haven't officially fired their coach but it's coming).

Give him a Cignetti number and lock him in through 2030.

Still learning as a coach but he's such an elite recruiter (save for QB ... unless Zollers balls out)

Discuss.

frick No!!!! We need changes at OC, safeties coach and need a dedicated QB coach. Extensions are how you get stuck with huge buyouts. He is paid more than fairly for his results.

Yeah, I think you at least have the conversation ... to ensure he understands the commitment will be there.

I actually think Drink wants to win somewhere, where it has never been done. It just seems to be in his DNA that he doesn't want to go to a blue blood and win (been there, done that) ...

And yes, I hope Kirby gets an offer to go to say Fresno State and we find an actual QB-oriented OC with better coaching at QB ...

You’re not paying him based on just his results.

You’re paying to not have to hire a new coach.

And on that basis, you could argue that would be worth a lot.

Drink made the decision to give up play calling to make the program better. He got a raise and extension. Think about that, he got a raise to not call plays. But it showed a commitment to make the program better.

If he's willing to make the changes to make the program better, then yes do the extension. But paying him 11 million and ignoring that secondary or still allowing Moore to call the plays doesnt help the program.

Bingo.

Drink's entire contract is predicated on potential ... and recruiting chops.

Otherwise, we're looking to find the next Drink (Sumrall - Tulane) and who knows how that starts/ends.

I'm really hopeful that the coaching carousel that's about to transpire will solve that problem for us anyway ...

Agreed we need Drink to understand that elite recruiting isn't a viable path to winning championships now

I somewhat agree with surgical. Give drink whatever he wants for his assistants. You’re only as good as your assistants and coordinators as a HC.

KC doesn’t have have three rings without Spags.

I think we need an OC upgrade, a WB coach, and a top line DB coach.

It's not like Mizzou is some shite program and Moore is being a scapegoat. It's just trying to upgrade to get to the next level. There is enough support to get 2.5 million for a proven OC. And Batoon has to say goodbye to his buddy the safeties coach. His experience at Hawaii isnt cutting it here.

Do that and here is your brand new 5 yr, 11 million dollar deal.

Also, a dedicated QB coach.

Steve Spurrier mentioned Drink as a good choice for Florida.

Just curious how pissed would you be personally if Drink left for another SEC school?

Unless it were for Alabama or Georgia my blaze of anger would make Blake Baker leaving look like a campfire.

Funny enough I think this SEC poster hits the nail ont he head.

LINK

The money is not going to be that much better. The headaches will be a WHOLE lot bigger. I think it's fair to offer him another extension just to help with any outside noise for the next few seasons. Who would we want that's better? Yes, we've got some OC issues, but I am confident that Drink will continue to take this program to the next level.

Lock him up and let's get our full attention on making the playoffs.

I wouldn't be pissed but replacing Luper, Peeler, Jones, Early, and Nicholson would be a major undertaking. Each room has All SEC talent in it because of their recruiting efforts. Id rather keep him and his staff here and believe that Zollers develops and we finally see what Moore's offense looks like with an NFL arm.

I don’t think it’s as likely as everybody seems it took drink several years to get this team on a winning track. I don’t think Florida is gonna wanna wait that long. They’re gonna want immediate results and it will take drink a while to get his coaching staff in place.

It pisses me off when we loss a player to a SEC school. I was more upset that Baker went to LSU than losing him. If he would have went to a Big 10 school I probably wouldn’t have cared.

I would much rather lose Drink to Penn State than another SEC school even if he does terrible and gets fired in 3 years.

I could see Drink going to either Penn State or Florida. I think Florida's a better fit for him.

I wouldn't advise him to do either though. I could see him going there and him turn into "just another 3 year coach" and then his value as a head coach is diminished so bad that he can barely get a job at Florida Atlantic University. Something like Tom Herman's career.

His name isn't Lane Kiffin where he can get 4+ years to turn it around, he'll have 2 years and a bit into the 3rd one.

This is exactly how I see it playing out.

Took him 4 years to finally having a winning record here.

Now if UF offers him a few million a year more, understandable. But I don't think it will be too much more than his current salary.

Drink using bye week to field offers? He would have a very short leash at FL. He’s already fighting an uphill battle with a good portion of the fanbase. He needs to be careful what he wishes for.
