Program should have stayed defunct. All those crocodile tears and they're already back to three win seasons in front of empty bleachers. It and all similar programs are likely not long for this world in the NIL era anyway.

Should have invested in soccer and build its name there.

They were from Auburn fans, hipsters, and media.

Agreed. Many years of living in Alabama and I'm honestly struggling to think of a time I've met a UAB fan.

Same conference record (5-14) as Hugh Freeze.

It never made any sense to resuscitate it.

Sounds to me like Trent just needs more resources and a move down 280 could be just what he needs.

You say this jokingly, but this is very true. I worked with a barner who was a UAB alumnus in my first job out of college. He never even mentioned UAB football when I was around him. He was a Bama hater more so than an Aub. Most UAB fans have a complex about how The University of Alabama (which they call UAT) has oppressed them for so long.

The funny thing is that AU fans that attend UAB have a degree from The University of Alabama. It may have more words on the end but they still pay UA in one form or another.

It is hilarious. I guess, back then, Auburn had a lot of bandwagon fans during the six year streak. Poor little UAB because of big, bad Alabama. What a joke.

The only UAB fan I knew used to play for them a while back. So that made sense

Never met any other actual non-AU UAB fan either

It was theater. An adorable comeback story that no one gave a shite about 5 seconds later.

You had a lot of national media jumping on it as well because it meant they could passively aggressively take shots at Alabama during Saban’s prime. Now a lot of those people probably couldn’t even tell you what UAB’s record is this year.

It certainly was all theater. Maybe things would be different if Bill Clark hadn’t retired but even after getting a new stadium, we see the problem with UAB football really has nothing to do with the venue.

This is all it comes down to. The media loves to take shots at Alabama every chance they get. No matter how petty it is. I remember back in the day, UAB had a pretty good program when Watson Brown was their coach. Bill Clark did some good things, too. Outside of that, their program has been largely nonexistent and irrelevant.
