Negatives / Positives on BP as HC

I did something out of character for me and took the family to the lake today, in stead of watching the Razorbacks. Got to norfork brewery for dinner a little after half time. Was shocked that it was tied.
I didn't get to watch the first half, nor the closing quarter... mostly. What and why are you positive / Negative on BP being the HC this time around?
I am leaning to being hugely supportive and throwing my .02 cents into the convo with the PTB...
Thoughts?

We obviously don’t have the talent on defense to be better than average at best but they showed up today. They showed effort pretty much every play. More effort than they’ve shown all year. They wrapped up better on tackles and we actually had multiple players swarming to the ball. They gave up a lot but played good enough that we could’ve (would’ve?) won if not for the three turnovers. And they never gave up when it seemed things were going against them.
Bobby still has fire in his belly and it showed on the sideline. He was constantly on the refs arse, even when we went and entire half and beyond with no penalties against us. Saw the classic Bobby mean-mug numerous times.
For whatever reason, I’m guessing lack of depth and fatigue, our o-line collapsed a good part of the second half. Couldn’t even slow down their four man rush multiple times.
There is no disputing that the defense was motivated and much improved and we all know, regardless of who’s carrying the DC title, Bobby had a heavy hand in that over the last two weeks. IMO, Bobby is still the coaching guru we all new back in the day and with the right resources, bringing in his own staff, and the right players he could get us back to the upper third of the conference and probably get us at least to the playoffs a couple of times depending on how long he kept coaching.

Hmm. I grew up near those hillbillies. Hope you enjoyed yourself.
But to answer your question, if we could hold on to the ball we probably leave
Knoxville with a win. We're still a little talent poor, but they played hard today. Bobby only had 2 weeks to get them turned around and the turnaround was remarkable.
Hope the team grows from this and keeps fighting. We'll be lucky to win a couple of games with this schedule, but we're going to frick up somebody's season.

I'll put it this way.
The last time that I watched an Arkansas game with any kind of hope/expectation about "the future" was the Texas A&M game in 2014.
The Dan Skipper tripping game if that jogs your memory. Dominated the game physically after losing 20 SEC games in a row and scored to go up 3 TDs in the 4th only to have it called back.
Ended up melting down and losing overtime. Everyone took solace in the "improvement". It would be another month and a half before they broke the losing streak finishing 2-6 in conference play....but much improved we said.
That was 12 years ago, it has happened many times since, and it happened again today. The only difference is that today a man named Robert P. Petrino was calling the plays and timeouts. Take from this whatever you wish. Not sure I give a damn anymore.

As crazy as it sounds, I don't look at our schedule and think any game is just immediately unwinnable. All we have to do is stop turning the damn ball over and we compete with anyone. Hell, we're still nearly winning these games even with the turnovers.
I think I've been pretty outspoken in my support for Bobby. I just don't think we get anyone that puts us in a better position to compete if we actually get some investment in the roster.

I said that the beginning of the year, I thought our floor was 6-6 and ceiling was 10-2.. looks like the floor was lower.

If the idea is NIL will fix past recruiting woes, I'd take Petrino over Merlins.
Petrino probably has the best coaching abilities of anyone names listed, probably the only one who can coach every position on the team.
I'd prefer his offense over a heavy read/option offense common for most to the other names mentioned.
Petrino should take the job for less money than any of the other names mentioned.
Average coaching lifespans are 5-6 years anyway so age isn't as big of a negative.
That said I would prefer a completely different approach than the last 2 decades but since every other name is tied to the Bert or Chaggy era or the Gus pine coaching tree, or goofy arse merlins it's a classic south park douche or turf sandwich choice, so give me a douche Petrino over the field at this point.
Copy/paste
Add: if nothing else Petrino could the the short term stop gap we thought Pittman was going to be after his first season. The defense wasn't great today, but they were in the area of being able to make plays and you had guys running to the ball to make tackles so in the regard it's night/day different than the ND game. The players showed swagger and fight after plays for the first time in over a decade on both sides of the ball.
The team played hard for Petrino, which was better than the more of the same alternative most would have expected. This game could have easily been a 30+ pont loss even after he being tied at the half, under Sam it would have been as they would have quit at the first sign of adversity on both sides of the ball in the second half.
There are enough winnable games left on the schedule to make a bowl of they play as hard and simply cut out the turnovers. The same games can easily be blowouts of the just show up and go through the motions.

Our defense held Tennessee to their lowest point total all year, and Tennessee has played Georgia.
Interesting stat.

Give me Petrino and let him finish what he started one way or another. We need to close the book.

I think he earned at least a two year conditional job. We need to give him a good sized war chest and let him cook. We have seen first hand what he can do here. He lost this game because of turn overs that has plagued this team all year. The way he kept the team fighting is what I was the most impressed with and it was in front of a 100,000 screaming Tennessee fans. I enjoyed the lack of penalties called against us but somehow some way we have to figure out this turnover issue.

A lot of battered hog syndrome in this thread. All of the sudden we’re ready to hire.a coach for a moral victory? No thanks. Both sam and Bert were really good at keeping it close.
It was a classic trap game for tenner. No way we had their full attention. I’d count this game as more of the same rather than a great turnaround.

On the turnover front, I agree. And, yes, our offense stalled in the third and beginning of fourth quarter again.
But, are you honestly going to say you saw no improvement in the defensive effort? You don’t think, if it were still the same coaching staff, they would’ve shut down once they saw they really couldn’t stop Tenner’s offense (no one has). You didn’t see them wrapping up better when they DID get to the ball carrier? You didn’t see multiple defensive players swarming to the ball carrier more than before?
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but to insinuate there was no improvement and that the team didn’t show more fight this game is disingenuous at best.

The improvement in the team we witnessed yesterday is not a coincidence. The reason for the difference is obvious.

Offense
We scored enough points to win
Defense
Year six of Kobeers tenure
Tay Tay
Can win you some games, but unreliable.
Coaching
Flashbacks of the 2011 Sugar bowl
Final thoughts
If this administration isn't going to spend the money to compete, then lock up BMFP to a 3 year 20 million contract and call it a day.
I'm actually sick of hearing Bobby this or that.

This is pretty much what it comes down to.
If you are gonna spend the money. Get Sumrall and make Bobby the highest paid OC in college football since absolutely no one else wants him as a head coach in p4.
If we are willing to get a good FOOTBALL GM not a basketball one from the Celtics, Mullen with midrange budget (7-8/10) will also win a bunch of games.

Given I’m 90% sure we will get played or turned down by Sumrall/Lashlee, it’s all BP for me.
100% him over Mullen or Franklin. Why would we want someone that isn’t ours that haven’t been able to get it done at top 5 programs?
Mullen is an absolute goober and is doing exactly what Odom already did at UNLV.
When it comes to Bobby, his ability to identify talent and coach the hell out of it is basically unmatched.
We might have the second best WR room in the SEC top to bottom. You’d have spit in someone’s face laughing if they said that to you at the beginning of the year.
Green is frustrating as hell but he’s still a top 5 QB in the country right now.
Give him a budget to get a solid staff and pay players and I’m 100% sure he could build a very competitive roster.
End of the day, his football is enjoyable to watch, even if we’re losing.
I’ll take that all day vs the stuff Franklin puts out there on offense and some of these other zone read heavy, 10-15 yard out offenses.

Classic trap game?
They just barely beat MSU two weeks ago in OT and had 2 weeks to prep, plus they’ve lost the last 4 in this series.
No chance I buy that with them knowing BP had taken over and the power of our offense.
Looking ahead to Bama? Bama is pretty close to being 3-3 right now. Not sure TN is thinking about 3 weeks of prep for that team…
