Ty Simpson should have been the starter last year, maybe even the year before.

This is just a fan’s hot take.

He would’ve grown quickly into the role. I may sound crazy with what I’m about to say, but Ty reminds me of Joe Burrow in the way he processes and is always finding what the defense is giving. I think in terms of “offensive command” he’s going to end up being the most pro-ready QB we’ve had by the end of this season.

I wish he would have been given the opportunity to lead last year. We may not have beaten Georgia, but we wouldn’t have had that terrible second half of the season with him either. He would’ve gotten way better and Milroe somehow got worse. Kalen had an albatross around his neck his first season.

Ive no problem with Milroe being the starter however as soon as he started struggling Ty should have been given an opportunity.

I'd love to know what actually transpired behind the scenes last year. I will never understand why they didn't give Ty at least a couple of series to see if anything changed with the entire season on the line against OU and Milroe playing that badly. In 2023 I can definitely buy that he wasn't ready, but I refuse to believe that he went from total incompetence to really high level QB play over one offseason. He would have at least played reasonably well last year like Mac in 2019.

I got roasted two yars ago tootin Simpson's horn. All I got was Milroe's a running threat. How'd that work out for us?

Simpson was not ready last year. It just finally clicked for him this past summer...

Yeah Milroe carried the team to wins in the UGA, and LSU games, but he single handily lost the Oklahoma and Michigan games. Felt like Simpson should’ve entered the game during both games

Milroe was a cancer on this team. That’s all that needs to be said. Cost Saban a final NC and wrecked DeBoers first season. Thank God he is gone and the next Milroe needs to be run off immediately.

Ty Simpson is a high IQ high character individual that loves Alabama. Thank God he fought through the BS and stayed. Hope he comes back next season.

If you know you know.

I'm eating some crow here. I'm absolutely floored that Simpson did not get a chance last year based on what we have seen so far. Not only that he was passed by both coaching staff.

Either DeBoer didn't want to make a move due to the o line.

Or Grubb and company really made strides with Simpson from last year

I told my brother this yesterday, and watching tonight, I’ll double down. Size obviously isn’t in this comparison; but Ty is Josh Allen esque in doing enough with his legs to improvise, extend, and make plays. Their styles are similar to me.

I'm going to say this. The QB Ty is today, isn't the same one from last year. Ty has made so much progress since Spring camp and he continued to get better throughout the summer and fall camp, and the work he put into is where he is today.

I’ve been saying if Ty starts that game vs USF instead of Buchner he would have kept the job. And even when Ty got in in that game he wasn’t a disaster.

Saban knew Ty was better but the Locker room wanted Milroe

I don’t think we win much more even with Ty last year, although I agree that he should’ve been given more of a chance. What definitely could’ve happened was that a young guy that wasn’t ready got messed up by being under pressure too soon.

I’m not gonna look back and play the what if game, because he could’ve just as well fell apart and never been the same after. I’ll take the Ty we have right now and be happy.

That being said, Milroe being Saban’s last QB is sad.

My uninformed take is that if Milroe was pulled/benched it would have splintered the locker room.

All men are created equal until they decide to play QB.

It’s the hardest position to play in any sport. And there’s a reason why only a few excel at it.

Milroe should have been benched after the pic six in the Oklahoma game last yr when he just let the man score and could have stopped it. He quit basically after that and that’s a deal breaker.

I guarantee you the WR are more than happy to have Ty commanding the offense now.

Nobody goes from sucking one year to potential Heisman almost half way through the next season.

We might not have gotten this version of Ty last year, but it would have been better than whateverthefrick we had last year.

Bill O’Brien was right about Milroe.

That said, WTF offense were we running with Bryce Young at QB and Jahmyr Gibbs at RB. It was junk. BOB did nothing to develop any of the QBs on the roster. So frustrating to look back upon.

That and he would have been more prepared for the opener against FSU and not starting his first game ever. We may not have won but I'm willing to bet it's a toss up in the fourth.

I remember hoping Milroe would opt out of the bowl game so we could see our potential 2025 starter Simpson finally get a chance. Instead another game to give away with his turnovers. It truly was the good the bad & the ugly with him. Seahawks getting a dose of the bad & ugly right away.
